Good point. The browser I use to access TER dumps the history, cookies and cache each time I quit.

I just went through People You May Know on Facebook and found two providers there. Thing is, I've never used the import email contacts feature, and in any event the Email account I use to communicate with providers is of course not the same one that's linked to my Facebook account (duh). I'm not the most tech savvy guy on the planet but this seems like some next level privacy invading shit if Facebook is rooting through other email accounts to shove people down my throat. Though I'm sure it's nice and legal. Anyone else have this happen?

And fear not ladies, friend requests NOT forthcoming.

On my personal account with my real name, I see in People That You May Know other working ladies at the ranch that I have never ever communicated with.   Some of them find me in their People You May Know suggestions and send their working name FB friend request to my real name FB profile.  I delete them.  I think its because we have people in common.  For instance, my boss Madam Suzette (I am also her assistant) is on my FB and girls who are on hers show up on my People You May Know.   That is all I can figure.  It is pretty scary sometimes how FB and linkedIN work

if you have a Gmail account is is logged in? Suggest using one browser for hobby, another for real life and check your privacy settings. ANY website you visit is almost always pillaging info from your history and cookies.

I use the incagnito feature on Google Chrome for hobbying and internet explorer for Facebook.  I haven't noticed any providers yet, but I will be looking a lot more now.

When you are on social networking sites, it doesn't matter which device and which browser you use. You are logging in using the same user name and password and it is correlated rather easy.

I can tell you, which device you used, at what time, from where and which network you used in less than 15 minutes. All the do not track like incognito can't do a thing. All it does is to send a message asking you have requested not to be tracked, whether the receiving end honors or not is purely optional.

If you are on the Internet, you can be tracked pretty easily.  Trying to hide things may work with your significant other but not on the net. We all get away because, unless one does something really, really stupid and gets noticed, no one gives a shit

It does anyway, but the new chat option accesses your device, I wonder if it also accesses your device's contacts too.

but I only store phone numbers in my contacts and I have a method for disguising them as real people. Maybe somehow through the phone numbers? One of them it's her real identity, I guess she's using the same phone? I don't even want to click on her profile for fear of what else I'll set in motion!

Privacy, Contacts on the iphone, list of apps that requested access to my contacts and messenger is one of them, defaulted to "allow." The two providers that popped up must have the phone numbers they use for business linked to their real life FB accounts. I don't imagine that's very common!

...of course, I could be doing it wrong.

to link every snippet they can find on you for their marketing purposes. Maybe if you are Eddie Snowden you can hide, but chances are they know more about you than you think.  I created an alias email account to use for one of those Big Three and within minutes they had started inserting that alias name into email that I sent from another account.

I use a Gmail address for hobbying things. Several times now I wasn't receiving any replies to forms I'd filled out on provider websites. When I contacted the assistants, they said they'd emailed me. One showed me screenshots of the emails she'd sent. It wasn't until I placed an order with a sex toy store, didn't receive a reply, and called the store that I found out that Google blocks email from sites it doesn't like to Gmail addresses.

When facebook changed their privacy settings, it reset the iPhone to automatically share contact info with it. Most didn't know this until they started getting weird "people you may know" recommendations. Change the setting in your iPhone settings. While what's mined has been mined, any new info should be safe.

Facebook doesn't offer any "opt out" for the "people you may know", so I'm on a constant blocking tirade.

awesome tip for all iphone users I should think. I'll also no longer put any providers in my contacts....that's a PITA but what must be must be.

Also make sure not to share your google contacts with your iPhone; that's how facebook got me. Damn technology. It's all around; other contacts outside of clients don't need to see my facebook either. Grr.

DO NOT ALLOW "These apps"
and never click the blue
"update all contacts" underneath
the Facebook settings on your iPhone
I'm sure there's more to do but that's a start

I don't find it a problem, but I guess if others are sharing their computers with others that may be an issue.

Always deny to the SO..."I'm sorry honey, I have no idea who that hooker is...honestly"

to frustrate the damn intrusive data mining.  I always log out & clear everything before TER or adult stuff.
I don't share my computer (bought her a laptop years ago...  best move ever!)  Set to delete everything on shut down...  Accidentally SHUT IT OFF if I had to share for some reason.

My real one!!! Lol... Wished fb had more freedom to post whatever ......

Thats a scream! Maybe you should patent it Gemma!

...whatever. Glad I still use a dumb phone too.

If I want to connect with someone I will. NSA (Big Brother) may be watching but he's not the only one

Pass on ALL social media. I never got on that gravy train. Creeps me out personally. I don't like peeps in my bizness whatsoever. Nobody needs to know I'm brushing my teeth at 5:02 or what I look like doing it LOL. I mean really?

I'll just post my headless blurred out self on here instead hahaha.

xx kisses

Social networks. They have ro pay for all the equipment, software and people to take care of it.

What did you think, they were social networking for your pleasure and convenience.

By the way, they also shovel ads down your throat.

Enjoy being money making drone for face book and other social networks.

When they give out free samples at Costco and Whole Food they aren't trying to help you eat for free. What those bastards are really doing is trying to entice you to buy the product. Somebody should really do something about these people.

If i research at item on Amazon...  ads for it (If I wanted it, I would have bought it while I was there!) start popping on yahoo & google ad sites.  F Me!   Makes me hatye them even more.

I use FB only for family pictures & my setting are the most restricted.  Others complain.  Too F bad.

Anybody that uses these social media websites should not be surprised. That is the point. You allow them to basically track everything you do whether you like it or not. Why do people feel the need to put their life on display on the interwebz?

I asked one client I trust if he could see me on there as well, and he said he could. I immediately went and made sure my employer, friends list and all that stuff was visible to friends-only. I've also been blocking any man that doesn't have any friends in common with me.

I've been seeing random really hot women on there that I don't know too. I'm guessing they're providers, but I only have a few providers saved in my phone, and I know what they look like. So, not sure where those ladies came from in Suggested Friends.

I do have to say it's been interesting to be able to see into my clients' personal lives. Some REALLY are genuinely nice guys, not just nice to me. It's been a little heartwarming, in fact. Yes, I realize this makes me look nosey scoping out my clients' Facebooks, but people just interest me. And, I'm a good person that would never do anything with that information.

Anyone who doesn't want that to happen can just do what I and a lot of others do, make stuff visible to friends only.

Got a email showing me a person I know to connect with.   I use different email accounts, different phone  but the same laptop and browser. Has to be a common contact list that gets synced back to my IPhone.

...which is yahoo, inviting me to Link In with them- I do not have FB, just Linked In in my real name- requests were to my hobby email, in my hobby name- always deleted- will take info here with much appreciation- I really avoid the 'al contacts' thing anyway- glad I did after reading this-
not sure I want to initiate another Linked In just for hobby activity- isn't that why we use TER???

while using her own real life acct, she will come up as people you may know. And vice versa- if you find her RL FB with your RL FB, you'll come up as someone she may know. I never use FB to screen for this reason.

I thought I was going crazy, I got so freaked out when someone from my hobby life popped up in my facebook list... I am going on a lock-down tirade right now and hoping nobody found me before I found them... this kind of thing makes my stomach turn and I agree it's maddeningly intrusive. :-(
