just for incompetence alone.

...Leason was arrested as he left the apartment after "engaging in various sex acts with one of the two female employees [at the brothel]," authorities said.

...officers had been investigating the brothel, not the chief.

See link for full story

He was not arrested in the city where he served, he is (was) the chief in Runnemede and was arrested in Maple Shade.

Okay, the guy's arrested leaving the apartment after "engaging in various sex acts."  Ummmm....who's ratting on him?  Who's the complainant?  Who's the witness?  Since when was it a crime to go to an apartment and leave it?

I got it!!!   The witness was the cock roach.

The place could have had electronic surveillance devices set up in it.  Another reason why visiting a fixed incall location is a very bad idea.

Ah, yes, I finally get it now! It must have been Professor Plum, with the candlestick, in the library.

I agree, something's missing here, the police chief of all people would know how to stay out of trouble. I wonder if local politicians are behind his undoing, to promote their own agenda without him.

just a conspiracy, based on nothing but speculation and conjecture

There's always that quote from Otto Von Bismarck:

"Don't believe anything until its been officially denied".

The fact that they said that the Police Chief wasn't being targeted indicates to me that he was.

Based on what's in the article, they couldn't convict ME.  But of course knowing that a conviction is impossible doesn't always deter making an arrest.  As another poster suggested, it'll end his career even when he's aquitted.

Seems like he actually was under investigation to me.

This isn't a technical crime that requires the state's investigative or forensic resources...  Local cops, even in a small town, have all the resources they need to bust civilians for pandering.  All you need is a badge and a car big enough to haul away suspects, a '68 Fury with bald tires will do.

The fact that the state police were involved makes you wonder if he wasn't indeed the target of an investigation after all.  If you're going to bust a neighboring town's chief, you need the political objectivity that comes from having the state involved.

They must have really hated their Chief to arrest him. Usuallly cops cover up for one of their own. In NYC it's called "The Blue Wall of Silence." Iguess everyone in that dept will be moving up one slot. You know it has to be real bad out there when LE turns on one of its own...
