Great location, nice and priced well.

I have a honey that might come down from Vegas to get out of the heat. I am looking for suggestions for hotels around LJ that aren't massive stars but somewhat reasonable.

My list so far:

Torrey Pines Hilton (close to having a walk and shedding some clothes)
Hotel La Jolla (I like it!, I like a lot)
Best Western Inn by the shores (oddly enough, this place is pretty nice. Maybe the best Best Western ever)

Maybe the Catamaran in PB but I have not stayed there in decades?

Suggestions please. Thanks!

Avoid Hotel La Jolla - my GF was dropped off and ran into issues with elevators and staff. Nosy! I have been there and the walls are PAPER thin. The property it turns out is VERY old - unless it's an overnight I would avoid.

I very much like the hotel across from Felmmings and Melting Pot. Hyatt I think?

Yes, that's a Hyatt. That part of town isn't technically La Jolla. It's University City, but everyone refers to the area as UTC now. There's also an Embassy Suites down the street.

UTC is probably a better option than La Jolla proper since it has easier freeway access

Weird, I have never had a problem at the Hotel La Jolla and never got a report from my guests that they have had problems there. It used to be the Summerhouse Inn with Elarios on the top floor. Elarios was the literal birthplace of the Chick Corea Electric Band, which I love, so maybe I am not objective about it.

UTC is a no for me. If she stays there she might as well stay at my place.

It has to be close to the beach! La Jolla is the best so we can shop and walk down to see the seals. I want to make it an experience for her that she wants to come back to again.

Del Mar may work. When I think about it, I just don't remember that many hotels close to the beach anywhere. Crystal Pier is awesome! So soothing when the waves come in and the room shakes a little. It's usually 6+ months out to get a room there though.

Maybe a timeshare or rental property may work? Just looking for ideas.

Uh, are you merely trying to session with the provider or trying to date her? Seems like you're getting a few things mixed up here...

We are "half" dating anyway. I have been on and off for this for 30+ years..so I can section your comments correctly.

Yep. They finished a remodel recently, big improvement.

Go overnight at The Hotel Del.
It's a favorite for this 'Zonie.
Granted it's not "somewhat reasonable", but if you are looking to score points, how can you go wrong?

Second choice is the Inn at Sunset Cliffs  (Sunset Cliffs & Point Loma).  Started going there years and years ago when it was a $69 dive hotel (BYO towels and sheets), but the old couple that owned it 40+years finally sold and was remodeled to a nice boutique hotel.

Both will get you extra points for places with character

Dang, I would love to stay at the Del. 40+ years in SD and 12 years working at North Island and I have never even been there. Thanks for that and the other Sunset Cliffs recommendation.

There are niche places out there, but sometimes hard to find without some chatter.

I don't think I need points with this gal, just want her to come back since she isn't a "touring" type and gratefully has an SO. She is me though! I think we have a place, but great info for me and others in the future.

Several years ago took my ATF to the Del from the East coast. Her first time un Calif. Major positive impression on her. Great food and drink, amazing ambiance and history, spa and massage she raved about and to top it off, we stayed in the 'haunted' room (3327)!

Highly recommend the Del.

why not the romantic Valencia on prospect.. oh their sheets, are so comfy!

It really does come down to the sheets, does it not? I have stayed at the Valencia before, but forgot, thanks for the tap on the head.

I stayed at the "Inn at the park" last night and it the was like being at home. $150 for a night, nice sheets, nice full mini kitchen. Very nice. A provider picked this out for me.

I will have to revisit the Valencia if this provider gets back to me. Thank you!

The Valencia is a great option.  However, depending on your budget and whether or not your willing to travel slightly outside of La Jolla, there are nicer places.  If you really want to impress, check out the Rancho Valencia (different from the Valencia) in Rancho Santa Fe.  According to Forbes, t's one of the most beautiful resorts in the world.

L'Auberge is amazing and on the beach in Del Mar!
I love La Valencia too.

The Grand Del Mar is one of the highest rated hotels in the world. Also cool is Rancho Bernardo Inn. Way upscale, both of them.

I am a beach hobo, so I think I will plan out for a Crystal Pier cottage.

Some of you gals such absolute sweethearts! Playing on the fly and working with me to make things work. Teamwork is everything, anywhere you go.

It feels like Hawaii out here today. And it will feel better in La Jolla tonight!
