I would highly recommend Robin.  As you can tell from her posts, she is very knowledgeable and safe.

I have had the great pleasure of Robin using sounds on me.  I was somewhat nervous, but found it tremendously enjoyable.  In addition, Robin is fun, intelligent, charming and extremely sexy.  I know you will have a great time.

I recently saw a BDSM movie which a beautiful woman was inserting a metal rod into this guy who was tied-up.
It looked both terrifying and hot at the same time and the guy seemed to be in pain and excited also at the same time.
It certainly peaked my interest and was a real turn-on when she moved the rod faster and faster.

I'm interested in finding someone in the NY area who does this.  My question for the board is besides asking what experience has she had doing this, what other questions should I be asking her?   This is an invasive act on a part of my body quite important to me.

Since I've never tried this, I do worry upon the first time as soon as she begins to insert the rod I will ask to stop and thus waste all our time.  I'm looking more for pleasure then pain. Is there anything I can do to prepare (obviously besides first emptying my bladder)?  The guy did not appear fully erect when she began and thought maybe that helps.

Any info would be appreciated.  Please post as I no longer can receive pm's.

You do not want a novice playing with your anus.  An enema to start is always best, but do not expect to get the item all the way in successfully if you do not already practice playing with your own backside in private.  Anal play takes lots of practice to stretch & open.  What movie are you referring to?

This is great advice, Madame Patricia, but I think you may have anal play and urethral sounding confused. The link below is a really informative primer on urethral sounding, but I'd highly recommend finding a fellow dom/me in your area that's willing to mentor you in sounding. Because the urethra is so delicate, there is a very high chance of causing scar tissue and permanently damaging your bottom's anatomy if you don't know exactly what you're doing. I believe KinkAcademy has a few how-to videos as well.

Happy sounding!

Amelia

A few things to ask:

How does she clean the rods after using them? - Soap and water on their own are not sufficient. My process is so: After use, I clean them with Sanicide, then wash that off with soap and water. Before the next use, I give them a quick wipe down with 70% isopropyl alcohol. The only sounds I boil are my silicone sounds, as boiling the metal ones can damage them (they are usually plated).

What kind of lube is she using? - It should be *individual packets!* of Surgilube or some other sterile, medical grade alternative

What kind of sounds is she using? - I use Hagar sounds, which are well made and the most commonly used, with a slight curve.

Dommes familiar with edgeplay and medical play know how to put their submissives at ease. I would suggest booking a long enough session that you two have time to sit down, chat and get comfortable together. You can also buy your own set and explore on your own first!

Have fun!

As someone who has both given and received (and enjoys!) urethral sounds for years, a big +1 on RobinArdeur's comments.  The single most important thing with this type of play is avoiding a UTI.  The second is for the sounder not to let go, because the soundee's penis with involuntary contract and try to suck that thing up like a Dyson on full power.

As a sub/bottom/slave, if you wanted to be as safe and STD free as humanly possible, consider investing in a sounds kit that is only used on you and no one else.  They run about $100.  Relative to the cost of seeing a doctor and taking drugs to cure a UTI, that's cheap.

If that's not an option, it would be preferable if your provider was using an autoclave to sanitize the sounds.  If you know anyone who has a tattoo business, they probably have an autoclave.

Assuming that the sounds are stainless steel and your provider doesn't have access to an autoclave, my suggestion is as follows:

SET UP A "CLEAN" FIELD

- Sounder washes hands with soap & water.
- Do hand sanitizer, too.
- Glove up (nitrile).
- You probably want a stainless steel tray or something of that nature as your "clean" field.  Note that I didn't write "sterile" field, because we're not in a hospital.
- Use PDI Wipes to clean the tray in a concentric circle or use a Zamboni technique.  Either way, you want to push the germs and bacteria to the outside of the tray.  Don't be afraid to put a little muscle into it (chemicals + pressure = best results).
- Allow 3 minutes to dry.
- Cover tray with a barrier/dam/drape; put another drape on a clean counter next to the tray.
- Swap out for a fresh set of nitrile gloves.

CLEAN SOUNDS

- With the new (second set) of gloves, use a new PDI Wipe, as you did on the surgical tray.
- I usually set the sounds down on the clean barrier/drape NEXT to the surgical tray, allow to dry for 3 minutes.
- I then use a saline wound wash and paper towels to get the PDI juice (if there's any left) off of the sounds, and consider them "clean" sounds at this point in time.
- THEN they go on the surgical tray (on top of the barrier/dam/drape) - the sounds are ready to go
- You hopefully have a bunch of individual packets of Surgilube.  Add those to your surgical tray, so that you don't have to reach outside of the "clean" field when you need them.

CLEAN THE PERSON RECEIVING THE SOUNDING

- Third set of gloves, wipe the tip of the urethra/head of the penis with antibacterial soap.  Yes, this will sting a little, but not as bad as a UTI.  Suck it up, buttercup.
- Apply some Surgilube to the head of the penis/urethra area.
(I'm assuming that it's a male being teased with this, but women can receive sounds, too.)

PLAY!

- Fourth set of gloves, lube up the sound generously with Surgilube and have fun!
- Just place the sound right at the tip of the urethra/head of the penis.  If you start out with a smaller sound, let gravity take its course and that hungry fella will swallow it right up.
- Remember that in and out, left and right motions are fun!
- Don't be afraid to add more Surgilube if you are playing for a while.
- It's a pretty wild sensation to cum with the sound still in there, because you have to wait for it to be removed to see the ejaculation.  It's probably the closest a man can come (cum?) to squirting.

POST-PLAY

Just repeat the CLEAN SOUNDS set as above with a new set of gloves (PDI wipes + saline wound wash).

NOTE: You will still need to clean the sounds yet again the next time you play, but you want to get the gunk off before you put them away.

Have fun

he is no longer in the NY area. She has relocated to the SF bay area. However if you ever get a chance to visit you would be in  expert hands

Yes, hygiene and cleanliness is extremely important.

You'd be best off having an ongoing "thing" with a fet-oriented provider whom you know offers this, and maybe establish some rapport and trust, by doing some other less invasive types of play at first.  A provider who can't even keep paddles and whips and ropes clean is not someone whom I would ever trust with sounding play.

Also, at least the first time out, I strongly suggest that you be restrained (prevent moving around so that you don't flinch and nick something in there), but NOT blindfolded.  Communication is VERY important with this kind of play, and having eye contact (in both directions) will facilitate that.  There shouldn't be any safewords or any of that kind of stuff.  This is a case where "no" has to mean "no".

Sounding and/or other types of medical play can be really exciting--but it's not something to be done casually or in a half-assed way.  Don't try to do this with someone who hasn't had a tremendous amount of training and experience.

Play safe and enjoy.

I want to second and third a lot of what has been said.
The important points:
a) sterility.  This includes the instruments, the field, the penis to be penetrated, the gloves of the provider. The safest is to have your own set and be respinsible for sterilizing them.
b) The experience of the provider.  As bad as urinary tract infections and STDs can be, much worse is the serious damage that can be done..  The experience and seriousness of the provider is important.  I have known two providers who were extremely well trained and serious.  I had a long time with a submissive lady who very much enjoyed being penetrated in this and other ways, but I had at this time a lot of professional experience with catheters and sounds. If I hadn't (because not all physicians do...psychiatrists, for example and pediatricians who do not work on adults and many internist do not necessarily feel comfortable with these things.  I had a lot of experience in my med school rotations and then I did a rotating internship  with two months in OBGYN and time in urology)  I would have found a way to get the experience before starting off on their use.  (My girl friend so enjoyed these experiences.  She also enjoyed dominating other women and would invite them in for us to penetrate them. It was a great few years.)
I don't mean to be a scold and wound never demean a well trained experienced provider, but we should all be aware that this is serious, if potentially very rewarding, stuff.

I experienced sounds at the Fetish Fortress in NYC.  The entire experience was amazing, and they followed all the items that Robin shared in her posting.  The place is amazing, the ladies are beautiful, and they have very strict hygiene standards that would rival most hospitals.  They offer a very wide range of services, so I suggest sending them an email with your interests, and they can provide you some options.

Play safe and enjoy!
