Depends Where You're Staying

If you are staying right on the coast, it could be a bit cool. But Mission Valley, North County or Inland will be beautiful. Either way, compared to what you have been experiencing in the East, shorts and polos should work for you during the day time. It will not be cold or uncomfortably cool IMO.

I'm flying in later this week from the winterful east and have laid out my shorts and polos with excitement only to check weather.com to see highs in the 60's. So it's mid 80's there right now so I'm wondering wtf? I'm ready for shorts and the pool but should I leave them home and pack for cool weather? This is my first visit and I'm always hearing how you have perpetual summer?

Hey thank you! I'm staying in the gaslamp area and hope to be taking in as much of the area as I can. You are correct about being better that what I've got right now lol. Any suggestions on places I have to go to for eats, drinks, and ladies within walking of my hotel near Convention Center/Petco Park? I'll be the hobbyist in shorts and flip flops lol.

I love SD and go to some awesome pool partys in the heart of gaslamp every year and I can remember times where its like only in the 70s. Granted I live in Palm Springs where I am used to 110 degree summer days so ofcoarse anything under 80 degreess just dosnt seem like bikkini weather to me. hahah SD always seems like it stays cooler than the rest of SoCal.

I'm up in inland Carlsbad about 5 miles from the beach. It was hi 80's today. Probably 80 at the beach which is really strange.  Our water is cold so it's always much cooler at the beach or downtown.

Thanks, good to know. My intervention sunday at the hard rock is indoors lol....was hoping for the bikini clad pool party

Love the Hard Rock! ;)

SD is usually shorts and T shirt weather.
Maybe a light jacket.

Within walking distance to petco would be cool for my day of arrival. After I figure out your transit system I'll be mobile. I've seen a few places on TV but I think they're all a day hike from my hotel lol. I understand San Diego is known for IPA??? Who's got the best homebrew with food and socialization? Thank you all for indulging my naivity but I'm on my own and I don't know anyone out there. I'm basically looking for places I can party at and stumble back to my hotel ;-). Oh, and who's got the DT to die for?

If you are right near PetCo, you are probably in the downtown party district called, "The Gaslamp District".  I have not gone there to socialize in a couple of years, but there are a large number of bars, clubs, and pubs.  I normally head to "The Field" or "Dublin Square Irish Pub & Grill " to get a bit of the Irish on and have had some interesting discussions with people at those locations.

As to public transportation, luckily you have a number of tourist spots nearby since the San Diego public transportation system is not as extensive as the east coast systems.

Probably not within walking distance but you might want to try Karl Strauss Brewing Company, Stone Brewing World Bistro and Garden or Ballast Point to name a few. There's a Rock Bottom brewpub in Gas Lamp District.

Today was in the 90's!  Bring your pool gear & sandles love, but always pack pants, plus a coat for the chilly nights.

You just need a small coat.  Nothing heavy.  Enjoy America's finest city!

I'm here and I was walking around the gas lamp quarter in flips, shorts and a tank top. So good to leave the east coast winter for a while. Now I gotta entertain myself...
