Good point, but my question relates to how I refer to her work/career, which she still engages.

I've seen 'call-girl' too but that seems old fashioned going back to the days you had to flip open the yellow pages!!!

What's the various distinguishing meanings between them? My ATF gal has become my best friend, and I don't want to insult her, but honestly i've been hobbying 15 years, and I still don't know what the various terminology is disparaging or not

I'll often use the word "hooker" but some girls are offended by it.  Same with "whore," though I love a gal from LV whose tag line is, "Yes! I'm a whore!"
Most of the PC crowd here prefer Escort, Courtesan, Companion and, of course, Provider (which I truly hate). Streetwalker is different because it's just a description of a category.  If she walks the streets offering herself, she's a streetwalker.  If she doesn't, she's not.
I don't think anyone who's been around at all doesn't know this, so, while I've tried to be civil I'm really thinking you've got to be a troll.

Why assume Troll? Nope, honest question...call it the dumb question you never asked the first day of class, and then time flew by, and you never figured it out.   it's sensitive subject. Even asking can be insulting implication so it's easier to have the conversation on a thread like this.

My Gal simply calls it "working girl" or "work". But that need for ambiguity demonstrates the awkwardness of various other terms.

I think this has changed over the years too.

If you don't want to insult her... then use it.  Not that complicated.

I prefer companion, provider, courtesan, or sweetheart

Sweet Jessica... :)

it just seems to fit what the really quality girls I have seen do for me, provide for my needs and desires. I really do like girls though who have the self esteem to refer to themselves as whores, hookers and sluts as I really like those also lol.

One of the things I am really enjoying about hobbying is you don't have to play the normal stupid games, read between the lines, etc.  I've found that providers are very straightforward if you just ask things like this

My current ATF has become a Friend too. Total Sweetheart and so Adorable. I would never call her those names.

If she doesn't work the streets then she is just all the other names less streetwalker. Now as to what you call her or what she wants to be called, that's up to you two, but all those words mean the same thing. Here is a suggestion. How about calling her by her name?

-- Modified on 9/30/2014 7:37:52 PM

along with everyone else is one or two things, the thing you fakingly choose to call her in her presence, or whatever you think of her and/or call her while not in her presence that would inspire this post. (Don't start you word smiths).

I guess my answer is… who cares. You don't know know the difference between a woman who hops in car after car with little to no access to showers or screening for safety much less ambiance or lingerie or dfk and possible off the clock time or… *DOH!!!* Troll lured me in again.

Disclaimer: I support streetwalkers to courtesans. If it's a woman touching peewee for endz I'm with it.

Worry about making whoever is manually exfoliating your oscar mayer happy and less of how you're supposed to classify her.

PS Do you prefer hobbyist, beauty connoisseur, trick or human being?

Definitely not trolling... and as you can see I don't think it's obvious as you are assuming.

Not sure why you are getting all spun up about either, i'd be curious to know your thoughts...

Is hooker a derogatory word now a days? It seems whoreing is.....is Escorting the plain vanilla phrase you can't go wrong?

Is there a difference between an Escort and a hooker either by definition or. Or by inference

call me by my name. I'm guessing the same works for her??

Now if I refer to her, I STILL use her name. If I refer to her relationship to me, I think "paramour" works for an ATF. Maybe simply "friend". Anyone else, there is no relationship and no need to refer to one.

I prefer not to confuse who the person is with what the person does. No one "is" what they do. There is never a need to refer to anyone with the terms you mention; they are always derogatory in some fashion. Caveat: in the throes of some nasty, raunchy, dirty, albeit excellent sex - the word slut can work

This is an interesting reply....however in some ways it circumvents the issue by side-stepping it, essentially what I have done for years.   does side-stepping and coming up with Paramour, it essentially suggests that all labels as mentioned above are derogatory?

Reminder that i'm not talking about what I call her by namen, of course we use our simple names....but what about in reference to her career? Hard to avoid labels there.

When addressing her: Call her by name. When discussing her business or career, the context is already understood, and thus it need not be mentioned... "How's business?" is not derogatory, but perhaps "How's the hooker business?" is - if only because it is completely unnecessary to add the extra word. When talking about your relationship with her,  it is easy and accurate to say acquaintance, friend, lover, companion, date. Is it necessary to say to her "I am your John, and you are my Hooker"? I can't imagine the need.

When addressing others: Do you ever need to talk about her with someone else? Discretion and all? To another hobbyist, maybe say "[name] is a great gal". No need to say "[name] is a great hooker". Run into someone you know while you are with her? Maybe "This is my friend [name]". Or "This is my date [name]". If you discuss your relationship with someone you encounter, I hope you have a cover story like "She is a client"; if not, just be a gentleman and say "I am her Trick".

So, yes; I think they are all derogatory because they are all unnecessary. They exist only to label an activity that is almost universally shunned, and thus they are INTENDED to be shaming and derogatory by the standards of society at large. The side-step in terms of word choice is using those terms, as they serve no purpose when other options are exist that are in fact more appropriate and carry no negative connotation or stigma.

Denotation and connotation are both important aspects of communication and word choice

None of the derogatory names bother me because I'm the most satisfied that I've ever been in my life, I'm not ashamed of what I do and I'm comfortable in my own skin. I don't think that's the norm to be alright with the non-euphemistic terms though. Provider or companion is probably your best bet.

It seems that:

Escort/Escorting: Innocuous, maybe best choice, very generic

Hooker/Hooking: derogatory? Not best choice? Not sure why.

Whore/whoring: nasty word, but long history of it...maybe applies to those working in a group environment thus "whorehouse"?

Prostitute/prostituting: The technical term that cops would use on a perp sheet. Not derogatory, but not phrase of choice given technical use of the word?  Kind of like referring to your dick as your penis in the throws of passion.

Callgirl: outdated, no longer used at all?

Streetwalker: again outdated...possibly derogatory as well, not really found around US anymore anyway...(compared to the nineties and prior. Anyone remember DC in the late nineties? Insane)

Provider: again, like escort, seems generic and appropriate? Almost too generic?
