Because pretty much all we had was the personal ads in the weekly entertainment papers, or the Yellow Pages to go on.
I must have seen close to 50 gals over a period of 20 years that way.
Glad to say that most of them were not bad looking, and most of the experiences were pretty decent too; though having TER and the internet certainly has brought about improvements.
The other avenue to find gals was MPs. Non-Asian ones were actually prevalent back in the 1970s. You didn't know whom you'd get of course, but there were a half dozen or so gals I met that way with whom I got close and started to see off campus, so to speak. In fact, I still see two gals that I met that way. We've all aged like fine wine.
In 1974 I would pay about $100 for about 30 minutes of FS with one pop with a gal that would be about a 7/7 rated gal in a dumpy old apartment building.
$100 in 1974 is worth what, maybe $400 today?
Think about what kind of experience that would buy today and then do the math, as they say.

Even now, with review sites, how do you think providers get their first reviews? Many guys TOFTT. I still TOFTT occasionally with gals with no reviews, but I do want to see pictures.
One of my better experiences in the pre internet days happened on a trip to Reno. I called an agency out of the yellow pages and asked them to send me a girl to my hotel room. They asked, tall or short, blonde or brunette? slender or curvy, and a couple other questions. The girl who showed up was pretty much what I specified and I had an amazing time with her.
Sure I had some not so great experiences too, but definitely not all bad.

More like a crapshoot. It's kind of random, although you can increase the odds of a good encounter somewhat. Some good ones some bad ones. I've met some really nice girls this way. Met some fugly ones too lol
But at least you're meeting her face to face so you know what she really looks like. And if you're in a place where prostitution is legal, you can discuss her menu with her. You will then be happy as long as you don't pay her up front.
It's also true in this country if you meet someone at a M&G and she's also recommended by someone you know. She might have reviews but they don't matter much.
I've done it both ways.
His major goal with this OP was to firmly lock down the number position in the new BSU (Biggest Suck UP) competition, and IMO has has earned the right to be the new odds on favorite as biggest suckup on all of TER.
and yes I have tried a few ladies without pics or reviews, but only times I can think of having done this was when she was a new gal working for an agency that I know and trust, except for when I am in a country where whore mongering is legal, who needs pictures when you can just see her live and in person?
The UTR scene can be incredible. The best looking girls I have ever seen are UTR. Sometimes I go months and not see a reviewed/pictured girl. Yes, it can be that good.
Fellow monger gave me a tip on a lady who was UTR and trying to make ends meet untill she got back on her feet. Poor lady didn't have a clue about pricing. I asked how much to come see me she said " I don't know 100.00" figured I'd take a chance. Well worth it, very fun lady who was very affectionate and great at play time. I gave her double her rate just because I didn't want to take advantage and she seemed cool as hell. Found out a couple months later she ha found a job and was able to get things back on track. Shame for me but great for her if that was the path she wanted to be on versus this. But thankfully there are ladies out there who chose this path and love it.
It was agency calling and they sent... whomever was up next. After a while I got to know a few and had my favorites but those weren't always available. Never struck out 9 out of 9. 1 or 2 out of 9 weren't great but the rest were either adequate or a pleasant surprise. Then there were the face to face hookups at peep booths or seedy strip joints. No reviews there and if you took their pic they would probably have stabbed you.
All in all I prefer TER. The Wild West of p4p is in my distant past. Byt ut wasn't ALL bad. In fact, a lot of it was downright good.
but they were FOB talent brought in by one of my favorite agencies -

I have seen many, many FOB talents without ever having seen their pics or read a single review.
If you get a good relationship with a quality agency you can take their word every bit as much as you can some random monger who has written a review, who may or may not share your taste in women. or have any taste at all for that matter. lol

Pre-TER I did and I was disappointed a lot. Since the inception of TER, or other similar web based review sites, I will not see an unreviewed girl without pictures unless I am dealing with an agency that I trust. There are a few in Montreal that I will just take their word for it.
As a rule I will not take one for the team....unless I am stood up and I am really horny and have my heart set on a SP. This is when I am vulnerable for LE or and ugly girl.
Recently I did TOFTT when I was in South Carolina. (See my review on Summer Sensations.) She was using fake pictures and they were hot! At first I was disappointed and I considered turning around but her service was good. Also, she is not that unattractive. It was just that she was using fake pics that were very attractive. I wanted that girl. Also, I am used to doing 18-25 year olds outside the country.
I will say Summer Sensations is now using real pics. I gave her a 6 for looks and 8 for service. Had she not lured me in with those photos she may have been rated a 7? Noop, not true. She is a 6 at best. 7 if you haven't hobbied outside the USA.
