I am not going to mention it to anyone if they do not mention it to me. If they do I will say I was hacked.  I had no pictures other on that Twitter account than a profile picture which did not include my face. I have no face pics on my website either. For now I will leave my site offline and probably change the URL somehow and have TER update it. I have no other social media connected to my provider world and have deactivated the Twitter account. So if they click on the link to the Twitter account or my website it will be a dead end. I hope that is enough to not link it to me.  I like most people delete the "you may know so and so" Twitter emails. I know lots are outed to their families and friends but I can not in my current situation. I get why they do what they do but no everyone wants their accounts co-mingled. sigh... Lesson learned.

I joined Twitter years ago and have a personal account for my friends and family. I also have one for my normal "day job." I just signed up for one for my provider account a few days ago and it sent me an email to verify the account. I must not of noticed it so I signed out of my "work" account and signed into my "provider" account tonight and it resent an email to my provider email to verify my account. So I did and my roommate (he knows what I do) gets an email from Twitter stating Holly Davis joined Twitter. I look at my personal email and sure enough I have one sitting there saying the same thing to my work email and my personal email. I am moritifed now!!! Did it just send the same email to every person in my address book that has Twitter? I am not out to my family or friends about the hobby. I deactivated my "provider" account so if anyone clicked on the link it would take them to no where. UGH!!!!! I am now crawling under a rock!

It had my website info in the email so now I had to take that offline.. What do I do now?

If it truly went out to everyone in your email list, and it looks like it did, then all you can do is tweet on your personal account that your Twitter account had been hacked, and you are sorry for any emails that were sent by it.

Sounds like you may have to change the URL in your website.

Of course, if you keep the same stage name, there's always the chance that someone may search for you and figure it out if they find pictures, but if no one knows, that might be a low risk.

Just reading that made my stomach turn. I truly feel for you in that situation.

The problem is your site has likely been cached.  Even if you say hacked!

Not sure what you can do about that if people go to a website and don't see it there.  Hopefully your Twitter friends say "Yeah I know" and ignore the Twitter email.  I usually ignore them too.

What the other person suggested about browsers is what my wife and I do.  It is also better to even use two different phones and/or computers (yes this gets expensive).  Never email personal stuff to your Provider email as you will accidentally get suggested to other people who are similar or are in your "suggested friends" section.  As social media gets interconnected you need to start better disconnecting your personal vanilla and hobby lives.   This goes for both providers and hobbyists

My roomate is also an IT guy and takes care of my website. He was able to change it so it is a blank screen and it is offline so you just don't see anything.  As far as me using two different computers and phones I don't because I don't do this enough to warrant it. I am very careful and have never had any issues till I made a Twitter for my provider name. That was my mistake and for now I think if I just take things offline for a while and then figure out a different URL I should be okay after a few weeks/months.

Unfortunately i have outded myself too by listing my work/personal number on city vibe ad then this stupid eroticpost.com  cached it so when you google  my personal work number the cached ad of me and my website comes up  front page  in google. It was horrible and I didnt realize it until an ex GF googled my number and let me know.  Poor thing your probably just going to have to accept the fact that people will know now your an escort. Its not that bad my mom found out and  didnt approve but didnt disown me so the worst that could happen is you lose your job and family may find out!!! life goes on girl and being an escort isn't illegal so have no shame in what you do  and unless you work with children or a religious company company  chances are they wont fire you if you explain how it is legal side bussines you run! Hell  I would lie too if confronted  and say you dont sleep with clients to make it seem less tabu to friends/family

I am not going to give anyone any information about this. For me it is not possible to let others know I am a provider.

I'll send you an email on how to protect and better fool-proof yourself

I know that the lure of using SM to find clients, and for amusement is very strong, but you can hardly pick up a newspaper without reading about some big shot becoming undone by something they said or other screw up, and for us being in this hobby, the effects are a hundred fold.

I'm not even a member of any SM, yet I get invites to join people in LinkedIn or Twitter, or whatever from people I just  passed by on the street for C's sake.

If discretion and safety are concerns (And I think they should be paramount concerns.) stay away from all of these things.

I couldn't agree more. I am doing all kinds of google searches and there are no photos found and you really can't bring this back to my personal life but it is still nerve racking!!!!!!!!!! Lesson learned!!!!!!!!!! I have kept things to just TER and will continue.

Had an old "friend" email me on my hobby account. Like WTH how did you get THIS email addy? He said IG linked my number to my hobby IG profile and his smartphone still had my old number stored and he was on my website "shopping." I made a joke about it, but he already figured it all out. I hate how everything is synced. I had to delete the account, but who else had my number linked and IG alerted them just like you got an email announcing who joined Twitter. Who the f*ck cares, where is the anonymity? Social media sucks. LOL!

...so assume anything you post to any SM account is viewable by the world. Remember, Mark Zuckerberg, head of FaceBook, is on record as saying he doesn't believe in Internet privacy. And keep in mind, TANSTAAFL (There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch): the price you pay for your free accounts is all the information you post online, which is used and sold by the owners of the services. Keep that in mind and you'll make better decisions about what you want to share.

It truly is a great way for us to talk to one another and network with hobbyist as well as providers but, dang!! Your right, everything syncs up and it sucks!!!

One way to minimize the risk of stuff like this happening, is that on your computer and phone you use a totally different browser for personal vs. hobby stuff.

For example, I use Safari for all normal web browsing, for hobby stuff I use Chrome with privacy mode turned on - I also never let Chrome access contacts or save passwords, and I enter those manually every time I log in to hobby stuff.

Using two different browsers also helps with websites figuring out who you are other websites by not letting hobby websites see any cookies your browser may have stored.

Any modern computer operating system (Windows or Mac) allows multiple personas, which techie types call "accounts" or profiles.

That is - you have one account for your straight life, with email, browser history and cookies, address book, etc. But you have another account for the demimonde, with completely separate everything. Of course you will have to set up a new email account, but the address book will be empty, the browser history and cookies will be clean, and none of these will ever cross over into the other profile.

Great idea!! I will do this to make it even more seperated!

By nature, it's "social". Social media is by nature geared toward "advertising" and shouting out, and it's a powerful tool for those who wish to build a brand. But like any tool, it's a double edged sword too. Some people overshare, some people follow poor practices, etc.

People expect to get free advertisement and build a brand for free (and it can be done) but it's important to know how to utilize it effectively first.

You don't just jump into cooking a meal without learning the safeties of using a kitchen knife first. Cuz a knife can kill people too. Likewise, you don't just build a nuclear power plant without knowing how to control it first.

Many people have no problem using two accounts, including myself. I have 6 different twitter accounts and never ran into issues like this, EVER. So IMO this isn't a typical case for multiple-account users.

Create test accounts and set things in private mode.  It's not for those who generally follow very poor practices of co-mingling work vs personal accounts on the same browser or same OS account. Eventually, this poor practice of "cross-pollination" is going to lead to making stupid mistakes no matter which technology you use.

It's best to keep complete separation of work / personal accounts, never on the same browser

I actually had four Twitter accounts (my provider account being the newest) and never had any issues. I had my normal personal one, a professional one and I used to do web cam modeling and had that one.  I am not sure what happened and normally use my phone to tweet. I used my browser and all the sudden I got a notice and so did my roommate. No one has mentioned it to me so I really think if they saw it they assumed it was spam and deleted it and moved on with life. I will do a new profile on my pc for my provider stuff and not co mingle anything anymore. I will bring my site back up in a few weeks and life will go back to normal. There just wasn't enough info to point anything back to me. I think the crisis is over and  a lot of lessons were learned.

Great advice. I do you Chrome for personal stuff and IE for my provider stuff.

I tend to agree with you, Taylor as it has almost bit me in the butt. Lesson learned for sure!

Connective tissue if you catch my drift. And we certainly don't want it biting you in the butt. Happy that didn't happen Holly. Safety first lol.

I get you loud and clear!! Always worried about my safety as well as others. I will bring my site back up this weekend because I think the storm has passed.
