Did anyone here ever try to defend the hobby as something that should be legal to friends, relatives, co-workers or even your SO?

My political views are known to everyone around me.

I say, that moreover it should be decriminalized than government passing regulation on how it should be conducted. We don't want the Congress to be everyone's pimp. I used to be of the opinion that legislating the hobby is good thing. But after reading some of the posters, and giving it a thought, its a terrible idea.

I don't have an SO. Just me and my pup...(dog)

you get it. :) Decrim all the way, baby!!

C'mon, Courtney, get with the program.

My guess is that it's likely due to the fact that many americans are 'believers' who have some sort of religious influences in their upbringing which eventually may have affected their political decisions.

Just decriminalize it already... LE can certainly use the money for other things.

I am out, as is my wife who provides. We have had such discussions more than once. I even had such discussions with a few law makers.

even the cops i know hobby..

a little bit to family, vaguely to friends on social networking and yes the SO.  Always very carefully with word choice.  I would never to my coworkers.

decriminalization would not be so bad but "legalization" would reduce the profitability and thus the quality significantly and would likely bring both taxation and regulation....

Although I am a proponent, I still appreciate the opposing side, the contrast in perception maintains the intrinsic value of "IT"..

a paper in high school about why prostitution should be legalized. This was in 1966, a time when students weren't supposed to write papers like that. I spent a lot of time in the principal's office in high school.

Much as I like the idea of legalization, government involvement scares me more than the possibility of arrest. I'm reminded of Reagan's description of government's view of business: if it moves, tax it; if it keeps moving, regulate it; if it stops moving, subsidize it.

I play dumb. I know that it is hard for all of you to believe, but I really do try to act like I don't know anything about the subject.

I assume it comes quite naturally to you! LMAO! :)
Sorry, P, you just left yourself so wide open to that I couldn't resist.

I am not a bit ashamed about my proclivities where it comes to whore mongering, and if we are ever going to decriminalize this "hobby" SOMEONE is going to have to stand up and be counted.

Remember when gays hid in the closet? If none of them had the courage to stand up and be counted they would still be in the closet, but I guess a bunch of "cocksuckers" have more balls than 99% of the guys here.

IMO if every person that engages in this little hobby of ours is either too ashamed, or too scared to stand up for the right for consenting adults to do what they please behind closed doors, then we all deserve exactly what we have right now.

I don't have one of those anymore. Fuck marriage!

There are a very few who don't know.  The rest envy me.

However, not as passionately as I'd like so as not to make it obvious that I partake. I simply do not engage in conversations of this sort at work. People I work with do not know my political, religious or moral stance. If you avoid conversing about certain subjects, folks will just never know, they may speculate but they never know.

when talking about decriminalization.  Of course, you honestly must believe it, which I do.  I think prostitution and all (yes, all) drug use should be legal.

they see it as a moral issue, and so even us grown up independents ARE still targets.  Don't fool yourself.

""On average, there have been 1.5 minors identified in each city and 10 to 50 sex workers, which places this year's estimate at about 2,000 sex workers arrested and placed into forced diversion programs," said Carol Fenton, a Portland-based social media activist and blogger who follows Operation Cross Country. "The number of 'pimps' arrested continues to increase, as fellow sex workers, friends, boyfriends and spouses who've driven [workers to clients] or placed ads are now being arrested.""

I don't tell anybody I'm taking part in this hobby. But I'm for decriminalizing it rather than making it completely legal.

In College I wrote a paper and made a class presentaion about why Prostitution should be Legalized. Of course the Ladies were not so interested in my idea. But I think I convinced two guys and one girl.

I would of put my nose up in the air if you asked me 3 years ago before I became a part of it.. But now I defend it all the time, have a new respect for it & grateful for the lifestyle, yes there are the negatives but if you're smart & know what you want out of it, it's a great opportunity!!!

Between the chest beating troglodytes boasting(inaccurately) "I never have or would pay for pussy" and Civvie women fervent in their disgust while secretly frozen in fear at the concept; "The hobby" is a hard sell to mainstream America.

Being a crazy libertarian, I bring it up in the context of what's happening in the news of late.

Like right now, with Operation Choke Point and the recent shutdown of My Redbook going on.  This way I can defend the the hobby without outing myself, instead just hiding behind my "crazy libertarian" pose.

When talking to another hobbyist, naturally all bets are off...
