I am going to TJ one of this days and I would like to know as far as accomodations is concern, what are the best luxury places in town. I don't care if the allow you to bring chicks or not, since I would plan to hobby elsewhere.  Muchas Gracias!

That is a tough one.  It may be the Lucerna.

The Marriott, The Grand and Ticuan are nice.   They are all worth looking into.

I think all these hotels are either just above or just below Motel 6 quality.  There are no luxury hotels in TJ.  Unbelievable but true.

Sounds like you've never been outside the ZN.  You obviously have never been to any of Tijuana's better hotels.

The Pueblo Amigo used to be a Holiday Inn.  The Marriott is just like any Marriott you'd find in the US.  Etc.

While the Lucerna is old it's a very well kept luxury hotel.  The President of Mexico was the guest of honor for the Lucena's grand opening.  That's not the sort of thing that happens for a "hotel that is just above or below Motel 6 quality."

In short, Tijuana has hotels that are the equal of luxury and/or contravention hotels in the US.

The Hotel Ticuan is a ok hotel for the price I have stayed here a few times now.Hotel is clean rooms are nice the bar is ok dead at times inless some thing like a big soccer game or boxing is on.The food at the Ticuan is just ok a little over priced if you ask me.So I eat out tallys is just around the corner and has great food. The staff speak English and are helpful. It is not even close to being a motel6.I would recommend the Ticuan to any one good hotel.

Yes, the Ticuan is nice hotel.  As you say, "it is not even close to being a Motel 6."  I should have included it on my list of Tijuana's better hotels.  Thanks.

You have to get away from the Zona Norte if you want to stay in one of Tijuana's luxury hotels.  Many of them are in the financial district.

Near the border I'd recommend the Pueblo Amigo.  (It was originally a Holiday Inn.)

My favorite is the Lucerna Hotel in the Zona Rio.  If you stay there eat at there flagship restaurant, the Rivoli.  The Lucerna, however, is not "chica friendly."

Other top flight hotels in Tijuana are the Marriott, El Camino Real, and perhaps the Grand Hotel Tijuana.

The Pueblo Amigo is run down quite a bit, but the others are luxury hotels.

Can you guys recommend a reliable (safe) private parking lot in San Ysidro?   I drive a nice MB and I just don't want to take it across the border.  My plan is to leave it parked in San Ysidro, walk to the border and take a taxi into TJ.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

There are several near the border.  I really don't know the prices, but I always liked the one across the street from Jack-in-the Box.....for several reasons.

1) don't need to walk back across the freeway
2) is secure
3) very easy access back onto the freeway....exit the lot by turning right (only option), turn left at the light which is about 1/4 block and you are on the ramp for both the 5 and the 805....when exiting stay in right lanes for 805 and move to the left for the 5.

The parking lots on the east side of I-5 are 8-hour lots.  They get expensive if you're going to be in TJ for any length of time.  On the east side many times I've used the Gateway Hotel lot without incident.  I've also used the one by the Jack 'n the Box without incident.

On the west side of I-5 I would not use the Mexican Insurance lot unless I was just making a day trip.  They don't have much security and I had a car broken into there at night.

IMO the Border Station lot is very secure.  However, it is not a true 24-hour lot as your time expires at 10am the next day.

The lot by the Duty Free stores is a true 24-hour lot.  I've parked there many times without problems.

That depends. with family or to whore around. to whore around La manson is outstanding. for family . Hotels.con as a great listing.

The op was asking about a luxury hotel.  La Mansion is a love motel.

The Camino Real is a great hotel with good service and a nice location away from ZN. It has all of the amenities of a top shelf US hotel and is near the "Gastronimic District," where there are some truly outstanding restaurants.

Real Del Rio is right around the corner as well.
