Shoddy research, but she's not 100% wrong, either... -e-

Looks like she used BP and did not realize it is one of the worse sites for escorts.

Interesting! Some things are true, others I agree she did not look at other sites where you can find the best and worst of everything! Lol

I looked at the bp ad she referenced and found out the lady was using stolen pictures.

The point of a good research is that it offsets that bias through good scientific methods and data gathering, none of which seems to have been employed here.

But given that, my (biased) gut is that she is correct, and given that racism is a very prevalent bias in society in general, then why the shock that it should be reflected in the choices (both pro and con) that people make when deciding to indulge in some aesthetic pursuit, of which sex certainly is?

All she is doing here is sticking her toe into a puddle of water and saying:  Hey, guess what?  Water is wet.

Whoop-de-doo.

OK, the song has nothing to do with race.  (Black despair, grey doldrums, blue sadness, bad badness ...)

But what does Tiffanie expect?   If someone is blond, they advertise blond.  If someone is BBW, they advertise BBW.  Even if someone DOESN'T have a particular attribute, they might claim it in an ad if they think it will get more customers.  Usually, if someone has BO and bad breath they will NOT put that in their ad ... unless it's a fetish-thing. :-)  The ads she cites are the result of self-selected buzz words.  Shame on white girls for mentioning "European blond" or "Latin Redhead" in their ads?  Sheesh.

Tiffanie's personal story about growing up poor in Houston emphasizes racism but she mentions the 13 year old poor white girl in the same neighborhood who was putting out and tried to get Tiffanie involved (Tiff refused).

If Tiff's PhD Thesis is based on the same kind of biased, shoddy research it should be revoked.

(BTW, Los Bravos is a Spanish rock group from Spain / Madrid.)

On black providers who advertise "no black men please" on their ads? I see it all the time. I can only guess as to their motivation but feel that is their prerogative the same as it is for white women who post the exact same exceptions.

What's Tiffanie's take on the BM - WF situation?

I don't know the (census) facts, and a lot of celebrity marriages might slant the facts to one of stereotypes, but many (NOT ALL!) successful black guys go for the white trophy wife.  (Micheal Jordan, Tiger Woods, Reggie Bush, Kobe Bryant, Kanye West, Usher ...).

In my real life personal circle, there are a couple of the opposite WM - BF couples (not married) but they aren't celebrities

In my own real life experiences, two of the hottest black chicks I've ever met are the wives of two friends of mine who are white guys.  I do mean model/stripper/porn girl hot 9's with great personalities.  Makes it tough at family barbecues to keep my eyes off the pool area when these friends come over with their wives.  Therefore I keep my grill facing just the right angle...  Funny thing is, I'm not usually into black gals, but these two?  Wow.  Unavailable, but smart, funny and beautiful!

Do these friends' wives advertise on Backpage?  Unless they do, the facts will completely throw off Tiff's conclusions ... and we can't have that, can we

Maybe we can switch this whole article around by looking at the fact that we are all entitled to the right to have a preference. Maybe there is a higher preference for blonde hair blue eyes etc because that is what we are always told is considered American beauty, but I don't think it necessarily means black providers are experiencing racism. I mean as providers we may not want to see specific types of men and that doesn't mean that we are being racist. We all have the right to choose who we want and don't want to bang. I would only consider it racism if certain things are being said.

Also after discussing the part of the article with a friend that mentions the difference in how whites and blacks portray themselves in advertisements, all providers have the right to put their rate as high as they want and to describe themselves how they wish. The individual has to take the initiative to portray themselves in the light they want to be seen in.

Dumb article. Author had a theory and looked for evidence to support it.  Contra, to me prostitution seems to be pretty lacking in barriers. Top rated escorts in Austin and Denver (both visited recently) seem to be pretty equally mixed.  Quick scan of top 20 shows same. If anything, ebony escorts are disproportionately represented. Maybe a fetish thing?  Who cares, hot is hot, color just adds context.

Good points.  And ads might not represent actual concluded deals which should more closely align with true preferences.  There are lots of ads for the Chevy Volt but it doesn't sell nearly as well as the Toyota Camry.  Since there're no truth in advertising laws for Backpage, she ends up surveying, analyzing and ranking phony ads, duplicate ads and so on regardless of any actual final sales
