Who was the guy that shut down the government to force a balanced budget during the peace dividend?  I'll give you a hint...he's not in your little cartoon.

Let's see, what political party in the house and senate controlled the purse strings when Reagan, Bush, Sr., and Bush, Jr. were/are in office--Democrat party. What political party controlled the house and senate purse strings when Clinton was in office--Republican party. How much money can a sitting President spend without congressional approval--zero, zilch, nada. When there is a deficit, it is because the fucking congress wanted one........they don't care, not their money they're spending.

and the occassional bit of logic.

don't you know there's a Global War On Terror to be won.  We can't continually be distracted by needless crap like the truth.

If you remember correctly, Reagan asked congress for the line item veto power numerous times to eliminate pork from the budget and he was refused, as was Bush II refused. Granted, the republicans are as guilty of pork as anyone, but the democrats seem to be able to take it to new heights. Sen Byrd from WV is a prime example. eg, Construction of the finger print lab in WV, for the FBI, which they most assuredely did not want. But, for $150 mil, they've got it now.

Check your facts, dude.  The Repulic party controlled Congress for most of W's time in office.  And during your hero Reagan's time in office Congress enacted only one appropriations bill over a veto in 8 years so Reagan approved the increased budget busting spending during his term.  Here a few highlights of Reagan's open checkbook policy:
-- the federal budget grew by 67%
-- Reagan promised to balance the budget but instead the deficit grew by 268% adding $1.9 trillion to the national debt
-- the annual tax load on Americans increased 69% under Reagan.

These types of numbers have been pretty consistent for Republic administrations since World War II and McBush is promising more of the same.  So if you like larger budgets for more wars, higher taxes, higher deficits vote for the Republic party.

True, in a sense.  However, the president has the power of the veto.  Who ever has the final say is ulitmately responsible.

For example, the christian taliban house and senate under Clinton wanted deficit spending and warned that the government would shut down if he didn't sign off.  Clinton said, in essence, "Bring it on," and forced the republican congress to come up with a balanced budget.

Also, in the 1996 fiscal year, one of the arguments that Clinton lost with the republican congress is that Clinton wanted more spending for intelligence gathering, but the republicans maintained that was paranoid and unnecessary.

Ronald Reagan single handedly defeated all of the evil doers in the world.  There were no more enemies, you silly adulterer!

Were already way out of balance, that congress did not need to add anything to to increase the deficit.  Anybody who says that it was congress that caused Reagan's budgets to blow up the deficit does not know what the hell he is talking about.

..But I guess that most people who really like Reagan want to look at him through filtered glasses.

I don't really care about any of the past presidents, but Bush II has been one of the worst leaders of OUR country... EVER.  He had he the chance to be one of the best/greatest leaders and totally blew it.

The president does put the budget before Congress.  (Yes, they do screw things up.)  He is the one that proposes this huge deficit, that doesn't benefit me.  My taxes have basically remained the same the last 8 yrs. I will not be sorry to see him or Dick leave, but I am a little worried about what is coming next.
