Things that have happened since the last time the Cubs won a World
Series Championship:

1. Radio was invented; Cubs fans got to hear their team lose.

2. TV was invented; Cubs fans got to see their team lose.

3. Baseball added 14 teams; Cubs fans get to see and hear their team
lose to more clubs.

4. George Burns celebrated his 10th, 20th, 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th, 70th,
80th, 90th and 100th birthdays.

5. Haley's comet passed Earth twice.

6. Harry Caray was born....and died. Incredible, but true.

7. The NBA, NHL and NFL were formed, and Chicago teams won championships in
each league.

8. Man landed on the moon, as have several home runs given up by Cubs
pitchers.

9. Sixteen U.S. presidents were elected

10. There were 11 amendments added to the Constitution.

11. Prohibition was created and repealed.

12. The Titanic was built, set sail, sank, was discovered and became the
subject of major motion pictures, the latter giving Cubs fans hope that
something that finishes on the bottom can come out on top.

13. Wrigley Field was built and becomes the oldest park in the National
League.

14. Flag poles were erected on Wrigley Field roof to hold all of the
team's future World Series pennants. Those flag poles have since rusted and
been taken down.

15. A combination of 40 Summer and Winter Olympics have been held.

16. Thirteen baseball players have won the Triple Crown; several thanked
Cubs pitchers.

17. Bell-bottoms came in style, went out of style and came back in.

18. The Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks and the
Florida Marlins have all won the World Series.

19. The Cubs played 14,153 regular-season games; they lost the majority
of them.

20. Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Oklahoma and New Mexico were added to the
Union.
PS I am from Phila and although we won in 1980 that is the only baseball championship won in 120 years of franchise history.
PSS. we haven't a championship in any sport since 1983

And now they get to blame some poor slob for going after a foul ball. Cubs give up 17 runs over last 11 innings of series and the fans point the finger at this guy instead of poor managing, poor long relief, etc. One look at Dusty Baker's face in news conference after game 6 and you could bet the ranch on Florida for game 7...total psychological meltdown for him and team.

Boston up 3 with 5 outs to go. Sound familiar? More bad managing. At least Pedro took the blame.

I agree with you as far as the spectator, but the coaching job was done as well as he could, Dusty Baker has NO long or short relief pitching.. Lets see what he does about that in the off season.. He took the Cubs alot farther then expected in his first year, But if you look at the history of Cubs managers, many of them did well the first couple of years, and then hit the skids....Thats an ownership problem!!!

You're right. Dusty did do a great job just getting the Cubs deep in playoffs. But that news conference was like a funeral. So I imagine he had a tough time getting the players up for game 7. Negative psychology took over. I do fault Dusty for playing "small ball"...bunting for a run in first inning...instead of going for the starting pitcher's jugular. They had great success going for big inning in first inning during series. He tried to play it too safe in game 7...trying not to lose. And at some point he would have to go to the bullpen...how many starters pitch a complete game today, especially in a game 7?
