McCain had better get white hot, like a supernova, that is.

As it is right now, Obama doesn't have to win a single contested state to win the general election.

Looking at the maps, there's a belt of McCain support that runs from the deep south (minus Florida) through a narrow corridor of small population states in the west, stopping in Idaho and Utah.

Several polls agree with this. They also show that it has become marginally worse for McCain in the last month.

I can't see how he's going to win this.

"White" hot? How about "black" hot? Do you really believe this country is so deep in the depth of delusional insanity that Yomama Osama Obama Hussein is going ot be elected?  If you think so it is probably because you forgot to wear a helmet when you were playing 9-man. Hussein is joke.

. . . despite my efforts to prepare you.

Yes, Harry, I'm saying exactly that.

I'll certainly remember this if in November, the conversation turns to global warming.

Zin, your prognosticating ability is legendary.
You've been predicting the end of the world for years.

You remind me of those new age nuts that fled California about twenty years ago because of a prediction by Nostradamus hundreds of years ago.

As long as you are convinced that Obama is going to win, I feel pretty safe that McCain will sail through.

If memory serves me right you were saying similar things four years ago too.

And Republicans are about to have one.

uh, the supernova analogy, maybe McCain doesn't want to go that route, as stars shrivel up and die and collapse into dark matter after supernovaing.

as for the polls, let's face it -- some of Obama's poll support is simply the result of people chickening out, not wanting to appear racist, and claiming they'd vote for Senator Obama, while knowing all the while, no such luck.

lots of time before November, many, many gaffes and missteps to be made by both candidate.  last bozo standing wins?

Many closet racists suffer from it. They are terrified of being labeled a racist, but there is no way in hell that they are voting for a black man.

You are going to be very, very surprised come November. You may think this is the 21st century, but white America is not going to vote a black man with the radical past that he and his wife share POTUS. Not unless McCain self destructs, and even then I still think he'll win.

You think liberals are cynical and interested only in power? So, if McCain wins, it means to you that there is something deeply wrong with this country, and I would agree.

Haven't conservatives always argued that we're over racism now? It's so ironic that they now have to hope that they've had their heads up their asses all along to win this election.

I admit that there might be racism, my real problem with this "stealth racism" theory is I don't know why polling before the election would hide this, or why it emotionally serves somebody's white guilt to say anonymously on a poll that you're voting one way when you're actually voting another, unless that particular poll asks you about race first.

I think, for instance, West Virginia is one State that just won't vote for Obama due to race. And because of the polls and focus groups, he didn't even bother to campaign there during the primaries. On the radio, I heard people from the State saying that their neighbors weren't voting for him due to race. The polls were dead accurate.

What's more, I don't think many people "fight" their racism that way, either, that they can win morally when they take a poll and lose morally when they vote. I think few racists see their racism as a bad habit they have to fight.

Finally, if McCain captures the Presidency due to racism suddenly blossoming at the polls, it will be very bad for everyone, and worst of all for Republicans, because there won't be a way to hide from it anymore.

"You think liberals are cynical and interested only in power? So, if McCain wins, it means to you that there is something deeply wrong with this country, and I would agree."

If McCain doesn't win there will be something deeply wrong with this country..and it has nothing to do with a Black man because there is nothing Black about Obama .Tanned maybe but Black??? No way ..roflmao

What are you drinking?? The racism blossoming at the polls will be from the Democrats who do not vote for Obama..
Republicans won't vote for Obama because he is not a Republican..
Independents will vote for Mc Cain or Obama
Democrats who are not racists will maybe vote for Obama..
There is going to be a lot of sitting home this year from both sides..
You all just don't know that yet..

I didn't make the claim that people would vote against Obama or stay home because he was black, I was refuting that scenario from GaGambler, and telling him why an election won that way would be a very bad thing.

Answer him about that scenario, not me.

I was addressing you and not someone else but you failed to understand... The big difference between you and me is I am exposed on a daily basis to more than just the elitist part of the population..

What makes you think I'm in the elitist part of the population? I'm well into the working class, and had to work my way up from considerably less.

Back to the subject at hand, so I failed to understand how you have figured it out so that Democrats would be the racists. I find that even less likely than GaGamblers thesis: not only that there's stealth racism that will rescue McCain's otherwise moribund campaign, but it is all hidden on the Democratic side. Your candidate's best hope is for an extraordinary showing of racism, except you've figured out that only the "right" people must be guilty ahead of time.

I guess it could happen that way, Quad. I've already written why I doubt racism is hiding in too many places, but I'll try to make it more explicit now:

In polls, they're not generally asking people if they're not voting for Obama because they're racist; they're asked if they are voting for Obama, McCain, Somebody Else, Undecided, or Nobody. I'm thinking the actual racists part is already in the Somebody Else, Undecided or Nobody categories. Now Quad, why wouldn't it be? Where's the shame in reporting that to a pollster now?

I contend those non-elitist racists you're meeting have been counted in the polls, IMHO. They aren't lying about their vote to pollsters and waiting to come out as racist and on election day.

I also think that polls which say 81 percent of people voting for Obama say that they are enthusiastic, and 17 percent say that they aren't. Compare that to McCain, where 45 percent said they were enthusiastic, and 51 percent say that they aren't. The hidden racist stay-at-home vote might be hidden there, but the evidence is that McCain supporters might still stay at home in greater numbers than that.

And if racism is the Republican hope for victory, it's the equivalent of hoping national disaster just to win the election.

Thats where you are so very confused .. along with other uninformed liberals constantly thinking of Republicans as being the party of racism.. I have only heard of Republicans  against Obama because of issues not race..I have not heard one Republican say he didn't want Obama to be President because he is white or not..IMO if Condi and Colin ran for President and VP as Republicans it would be a landslide ..Maybe I am more exposed to White trash than most, and maybe its just a coincidence that most of the White racist trash I meet are Democrats .
..
I am looking forward to election day and then we will see the real numbers..
