meeting ..
what a story behind those geographical names?

Just wonder always when I am at those places ..as now    decided to ask ..

So you do not have to be at the  King  of Prussia to have an answer .. ::))

Any one?

ing of Prussia:
During the later part of the 18th century it became common to refer to the area as King of Prussia, after a tavern by that name that operated there.

Plymouth Meeting:
Area was settled by Quakers from Plymouth, England and they call their churches meeting houses. Thus, I believe Plymouth Meeting

PA population ? Started by Quakers ? how it affect culture of the state ? May be not as direct effect now ..but w as influenced  by Quakers Cultural views of PA population ?
Any way Iam not there  but near by :)

Quakers is a common name assumed by the Religious Society of Friends. They also are less frequently described as Friends.

William Penn founded the Province of Pennsylvania about 1681 after receiving a large land grant from King Charles II. Penn was going to call it Sylvania (Latin for woods) but the king chose "Pennsylvania" to honor Penn's father, a famous admiral in the British navy.

The impact of Quakerism on the development of Pennsylvania and West New Jersey is profound, and the subject of many books and college courses, but you are astute to sense that it was important.  I may have to go research the topic myself.

PA used to be known as the Quaker State.

King of Prussia was named after the King of Prussia Inn, a tavern then on the edge of the frontier.

The story behind Plymouth Meeting is  bit more complex.  The area was first colonized by a group of Quakers who came from Plymouth, England . Instead of churches, the Quakers call their places of worship "meetinghouses."  The settlers named their community after their home in England and their place of worship was known as the Plymouth Meetinghouse.  Plymouth Meeting is therefore a shortened version of Plymouth Meetinghouse which has been applied to general area.

So a places named after a bar (KOP) and a church (PM) now are homes to the joys of commercial sex. I don't think the founders of either place envisioned that happening.

Thank you it was soo interesting reading ..and again yo said what many told me already that those area I need to avoid.. so Iam near  Philly but not there :)

I am frugal, now, since I got laid off, but I still hobby, I just gotta save up.

Quakers have a very "liberal" view of Christianity.  Yes we are "christians" , but we go to "meeting" not church, there are no preachers, you sit in silence and speak when the spirit "moves" you.  There are no crosses in the Meeting house, and most Quakers DO NOT take the bible literally.

Also all decisions are made in consensus.  In 17something one person started a discussion in meeting, George Fox, and eventually convinced the entire religion to abandon slavery.  It is why Philadelphia became the hub of the underground railroad.

There is an interesting story on "Drunk History" that talks about how Quakers were persecuted and killed for their beliefs in the Puritan Society.

I dunno about that, but I do know that I, and a few other gents, spend more than a few pennies at this game.  Maybe we don't spend enough per capita, and maybe there isn't enough capitas (is that a word?), but commerce does exist.
