Bush To Filipino President: "I Am Reminded Of The Great Talent Of The -- Of Our Philippine-Americans When I Eat Dinner At The White House"

June 24, 2008 04:33 PM

President Bush met with Filipino President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo today at the White House. Arroyo was in Washington while her country tries to recover from a typhoon that devastated coastal areas and flipped a ferry carrying over 800 passengers last week. Before discussing aide for the Philippines, Bush couldn't resist beginning the sober meeting with a quip about a Filipino member of his kitchen staff. Read part of the transcript from the meeting and click here to read more about one of the "Philippine-Americans" Bush is referring to. See the excerpt below:

PRESIDENT BUSH: Madam President, it is a pleasure to welcome you back to the Oval Office. We have just had a very constructive dialogue. First, I want to tell you how proud I am to be the President of a nation that -- in which there's a lot of Philippine-Americans. They love America and they love their heritage. And I reminded the President that I am reminded of the great talent of the -- of our Philippine-Americans when I eat dinner at the White House. (Laughter.)

PRESIDENT ARROYO: Yes.

PRESIDENT BUSH: And the chef is a great person and a really good cook, by the way, Madam President.

PRESIDENT ARROYO: Thank you.

The Philippine President must be a very gracious lady.

And i'm glad that there is nothing to indicate that POTUS was ever a hobyist. Nor in the service of the US Navy.  He could have said something much higher up the gaffe food chain, like "Madam President, it's a pleasure to have you in The Oval Office, as I so often fondly remember the many wonderful hostesses at Subic Bay whose acquaintance i was so fortunate to make...."  The official transcript of that meeting would be  interesting.

Bush is not exactly one of the most eloquent speakers even when reading a canned speech.

it's those damn liberals and their ilk infecting your PC with all kinds of leftwing viruses.  mee too, but that just because my PC is long-overdue for replacement.

OK, excellent point, but it's prima facie more credible than "Bush has a brain?"

Ah, Subic Bay!! I remember the lovely "hostesses" from years gone by. Brings back memories of Olongapo City and Subic City, of Magsaysay Drive and "The Jungle."

I was humping in Olongapo City 37 years ago was going to be the only babe in my life that would ever want to marry me------I WOULD HAVE DONE IT!

it's a bitch to realize that you had met Miss Right, but you let the ship sail on her.  but ask youself, did she love you or or did she love your American citizenship?

feeling she married some sailor or Marine and got to the U.S.  At least I hope she did.
