As to damaging relations with the US, I can only hope so, permanently.  Inagine, no more Pally oppression to fianace and justify, no more threatening war with Israel's enemy-du-jour, no more US weapons illegally sold to the PRC, no more billions of $$$$$ squandered, no more slaughter of misguided innocents like Rachel Corrie. By allah, i can only hope!

I'm wondering -- given the  [alleged?] damage done to US interests by the likes of Aviam Sela, Rafi Eitan and Yosuf Yagor, what if some really vengeful "renegade" group within the CIA decided to conduct totally unauthorized and massively illegal "targeted assassinations" of those gents?  Wonder if Israel would believe us when we said [1] those acts were illegal and unauthorized, and [2] we solemnly promise they will never happen again?   [As a gag, these assassins could call themselves something clever like, say,  Professor Dershowitz's Seminar.] Ah, silly rhetorical questions.  Sure would get their attention though.

ANALYSIS: New espionage affair may be old story, but will greatly damage Israel

By Yossi Melman, Haaretz Correspondent

The new U.S.-Israel espionage affair revealed Tuesday is in fact an old story. Nothing in this fact, however, can reduce the gravity of damage it will cause Israel, nor lead to expectations that suspect Ben-Ami Kadish's punishment will be eased - if he is indeed to be convicted in a court of law.

A number of conclusions can be drawn from the case, which points to a pattern that has characterized Israel's security and intelligence establishments for many years. First, the American judicial memory is very long, and the long arm of justice there does not withdraw, even after a quarter-century or more.

Colonel (res.) Aviam Sela, who was involved in recruiting American Jonathan Pollard to spy for Israel, and Jackob Nimrodi, who was involved in Irangate, the sale of Israeli arms to Iran, with U.S. cooperation, both know this well. Since the 1980s, both have avoided the U.S. for fear of being arrested upon their arrival.

One could also conclude that Israel's claims that the Pollard affair was an exception has once again been disproved. Nevertheless, it is clear that in its wake Israel stopped its espionage activities in the U.S., including the technological espionage that had been one of the hallmarks of Israel's illegal activities on U.S. soil in the 1970s and '80s.

Kadish had a hand in this, too. During this period a number of Israelis and others were arrested and investigated on suspicion of attempting to steal U.S. secrets and to smuggle technology, equipment and information from the U.S. to Israel.

A major brouhaha erupted, for example, surrounding Milco International, the company of Arnon Milchan, now a major Hollywood film producer. Company director Richard Smyth was arrested by the F.B.I. in the mid-1980s on suspicion of smuggling into Israel, without an export license, electronic triggers called Krytrons that the U.S. claimed was for Israel's nuclear program.

Smyth jumped bail and fled the U.S. He reportedly lived in Israel for some time before moving to Spain. The case was closed a few years ago after he turned himself in and signed a plea bargain with the F.B.I.

The Pollard affair revealed that the Defense Ministry operated a secret unit, the Scientific Liaison Bureau, which for years conducted intelligence and equipment-gathering for the Dimona nuclear reactor as well as serving as a "theft contractor" for Israel's security industry. The organization appointed scientific attaches in Israeli embassies in the U.S. and Europe, who handled its operations. It was responsible for Pollard and, so it seems, Ben-Ami Kadish.

Cabinet Minister Rafi Eitan was head of the bureau during the period of Pollard's and Kadish's activities there.

The handler in both cases was the scientific attache at the Israeli consulate in New York - Yosef Yagur in Pollard's case, and presumably in the current case as well, although he is not mentioned by name.

Anyone with U.S. citizenship caught spying for another country should be executed. Period, end of story.

they should be sentenced to a life term of reading JackO posts, without the possibility of parole. Screw "no cruel or unusual punishment" it would serve them right. lol

Do you have any idea how many people have been caught spying for other countries? Corporate espionage is rampant, whether its stealing trade secrets for making rockets or cereal. Hell, Americans spy on other Americans.

And lots of American spies have been locked up in other countries. The usual quid-pro-quo is to trade caught spies. This goes on all the time. Or is it perfectly acceptable to you that any U.S. spy caught in Canada, Britain, Russia, Iran, etc. should just be executed as well?

and I buy info from Ford on Toyota's account, who re-sells to North Korea, then I'm OK?

if a corporate spy working for Ford steals a trade secret from Toyota on how to widen the cup holders without taking away passenger space in the back, and then sells that to a NK firm making their own autos, then sure that spy should be punished (even without selling the info to NK). But executed? Get real.

ya twisted little perv!

that's how we know you're Republican!  They're all twisted little pervs!

GaGambler, you're reduced to cribbing insults from GOPGeezer ["Chowmeinlover"] [which I actually find sort of amusing], and your signatiure contribution to this forum is the term "Hildabeast" [which, to your credit, is not original to you, as I've come accross it elsewhere].  It looks like you're lustily chucking some very heavy stones in a house made of very fragile glass.

it's more important to establish the fact of Israel's ongoing perfidy and trechery, even though the US is the only thing standing between Israel and destruction [at no small cost or risk to ourselves, though some seem  never to consider this] then to get caught up in an endless side argument over the appropriate penalties for that act.

Let's face facts : there's no way in hell this guy is going to be charge with a capital offense.  i suspect a plea-bargian to be the likely outcome, with all but a token amount of time served at home with an ankle monitoring bracelet [any significant time spent incarcerated at his age is tantamount to a death sentence anyway].  Making it all the more simple for the MoSSad to spirit him out of the US and deposit him into the loving arms of Our Most Reliable ally In The Middle East.

Jewish War Veterans suspend Ben-Ami Kadish
By JTA

The Jewish War Veterans of the USA reportedly has suspended suspected spy Ben-Ami Kadish.

The move was ordered by the group's national commander, Lawrence Schulman on Thursday, the New Jersey Jewish News reported. Kadish was arrested this week for allegedly passing US military secrets to Israel from 1979 to 1985, while he was an employee at the Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, N.J.

Kadish, 84 and a veteran of World War II who fought with both the Americans and the British and later in Israel's Haganah, is a former commander of the Jewish War Veteran's Post 609 in Monroe, N.J., where he lives.

The Jewish War Veterans is moving to remove him from the organization.

"There is no place in our organization for those who would seek to defend the interests of any country above those of the Unites States," said Schulman in a statement released by the Jewish War Veterans national office in Washington. "The alleged actions of Mr. Kadish must be condemned in the harshest of terms."
