Lantos was a great man and survived the Holocaust ! The fact that he was a DEm had no bearing on his character .
Actually, it had everything to do with his character. He loved the human race, even after the horror he survived, and believed in the betterment of mankind. Y'know, exactly like a, what is that word, oh, it'll come to me . . .Oh, yeah, aLIBERAL, spelled bold and proud. A fighter for human rights, not just property rights (the limit of conservative aspiration) and he certainly did NOT believe in the superiority of one religion over all the others - he was Jewish and he was tolerant.

Tom Lantos was a bright star in an otherwise very dark sky.
An inspiration to many Holocaust survivors including my mother, who came from the same region in Hungary as Lantos, and considered him a Hero.
My grandfather survived the Warsaw Ghetto uprising and a "stint" in Aushwitz. He also loved Lantos (albeit, Papa was Polish). He was also, like so many Jewish survivors and intellectuals, was a Socialist turned Democrat. He was among many who had survived and STILL believed in the future of mankind.
The bright stars remain in the skies for those who have the strength to look forward, rather than back.

Maybe the conservatives and libs are different in your State..In my experiences the liberals around me are alwasy spouting some kind of non existent history, and their eye glasses are usually tunnel visioned, and their drinking glasses are not even close to half full, as the end is right around the corner..
