The simple difference between Republicans and Democrats.

Today, it's impossible to get elected to public office or to be effective in politics and government without the patronage of billionaires and large corporations.

The difference between Republicans and Democrats is how they use the power they gain from these "unholy alliances."  Do they use their power in an effort to improve the quality of life for all Americans and genuinely give everyone an equal opportunity from cradle to grave?  Or do they use their power to broaden the gap between the "haves" and "have nots"  and to build bigger houses higher up on the hill to avoid full frontal awareness of  the agony of those below.

Does every politician do this?  It often seems like the only real difference between Republican politicians and Democratic politicians is the type of corporations they choose to get in bed with.

"Since taking office in 2001, Clinton has delivered $500 million worth of earmarks that have specifically benefited 59 corporations. About 64% of those corporations provided funds to her campaigns through donations made by employees, executives, board members or lobbyists, a review by the Los Angeles Times shows."

Kudos to you though.

I know you are a lefty, and lefties rarely point out, or even acknowledge things that make "their" side look bad. Just as the righties try to ignore things that make conservatives look bad.

One small step...

One of the biggest IMHO is that Dems think that by wealth redistribution they can drag the poor up by the scruff of their neck.

I personally don't believe that by taking resources from the most productive members of society and giving that money to the least productive members, that you can do anything but discourage productivity.

If you took every last dollar away from the rich, you would still have poor people, but you would no longer have anyone left with the capital to build any type of economy. America is full of opportunity, anyone with their health and the slightest bit of ambition can still make it in this country.

Too bad they don't teach that in Public schools....ambition being a very important part of becoming successful.. and I don't mean the ambition of picking up a check someone else earned

Once upon a time, they did. But that was before the military-industrial complex took over, and the paradigm shift began to move away from educating our children. Where once the public schools nurtured doctors scientists and engineers, today public schools offer little in the way of inspiration, and much in the way of predestined cannon fodder for the military.
