You were probably observed parking your car and walking the two blocks away from 7-11. Since most 711's have parking lots it you were deemed suspicious. The likelihood that LE thought you were "hobbying" is slim. Dealing is much more likely.
 
Saying that you were almost "caught" is pretty far reaching.

Of course you were correct in cancelling the appointment since you were already in LE's scope
