seriously, though, shrinks are wild cards. You get a woman thinking about how strange her mind is, and you have NO FUCKING IDEA where it's gonna go, and the shrinks ENCOURAGE THAT directionless shit.
Keep 'em busy, I say. I have nothing against barefoot, and pregnant is OK once in a while. But for chrissakes keep them away from shrinks and daytime TV. Astrologers and psychics are OK, I suppose.

because (a) a lot of hobbyists aren't married, and (b) a lot of hobbyists are - we've had this discussion a few times before - are hobbying because the wife closed her legs.
The comment is offered as it may apply, to the General Public.
But may we suggest that a person in therapy is necessarily self-absorbed BECAUSE there CANNOT be ANY way of the therapist objectively judging the outside world the patient (here wife) reports.
The therapist MUST work with their judgment of the pt's perceptions, WITHOUT EVIDENCE apart from whatever she may drag in.
Now, you tell me how accurate that is likely to be?
Therapists will of course tell you that the world is a mental construct and it is ultimately whatever you believe it is, and of course I am not a licensed philosopher. (HAW!HAW! Philosophy isn't licensed, get it?)
But let me suggest to you that if a patient cannot ultimately settle on SOME objective facts (like say arithmetic, a spectrum of color, etc.) they're going to have a very difficult time adapting to the rest of us who generally believe that 2+2=4, etc.
Not that there is anything wrong with that, you know. Numbers COULD be ANYTHING. It could happen.
I think that most therapists will tell you that it's not about objective accuracy, it's about the pt's FEELINGS. And of course there's a point in that, but MY point is that it is necessarily self-absorbed, because it's in a vacuum of unknown type and depth.
Hence, my comment that sending the wife to a shrink is a fucking wild card. The shrink will not know or care about the objectivity of ANY information, and that is necessarily self-absorbed, at the very time that his goal is supposed to be helping the pt adjust to their environment.
Exactly HOW do you adjust to an environment you can't even confirm? Etc.
a fella was NOT hobbying, and his wife has a confessional fit one day about 5 years into their marriage that she had concealed a psych history from him, "because I thought you wouldn't marry me if I told you."

So the stereotype in family court is, crazy women, irresponsible men. Man, I can't begin to imagine where that could come from.
