A Senator with a dismal attendance record who is limousined to his red pick up truck parked just out of view so he can look folksy as he pulls into the Capital parking lot with his Hollywood style trophy wife on his arm.
Conservatives sure like to bash "Hollywood Liberals"; but they LOVE low level actors.
Now that Freddy is officially in the race, if not the debates, I predict he will siphon off significant support from the imploding campaign of John McCain. Brownback and Tancredo can kiss it goodbye, and all 17 people supporting Huckabee will move to the Freddy camp.
I think its a 3 person race for the GOP between Rudy Mitt and Fred. A Giuliani/Thompson ticket would be very compelling for the Republicans. Unlikely, but as we know, politics makes strange bedfellows.
Still, its going to be tough to beat a Democratic slate of Clinton/Obama regardless of who the GOP offers.
Control of the Senate in 2008 is where the real battle is now.

as something the country desperately needs, then you got it. However, allow me to disagree. Fred Thompson is another 'family values' guy who would throw you and your providers in jail or at least fine the bejesus out of you. What does he bring to the table that is fresh and innovative?
I guess it's part of the definition of conservative that you can never move on.

Thompson is a lightweight hypocrite and is the last thing America needs. He's the darling of the right for some reason but knocked his girlfriend up and had to get married while still in high school and later dumped his first wife for a trophy wife 24 years younger. He's now calling for eliminating any non-essential government service, yet he lived in public housing while going to college. He's supposed to be a Washington outsider but spend most of his career as a Washington lobbyist who's crowing achievement was legislation to de-regulate the S&L industry that ended up costing taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars. It would be very scary to have this guy as President.
I can't picture on election day that Republicans will be running to the polls for the guy. One look at a picture of him with his wife and women in both parties will vote against him 95 percent.
That Republicans regard him as the new Reagan and think that he might be electable is-- just desperate.
