I'd guess downtown or near airport and stick to 3-star+ hotels if possible but....

I've always just stayed a tiny bit south in Chesapeake but VA Beach seems like a good option too not far away with better hotel (or resort) choices,

I'm planning to visit Norfolk after Christmas and was just wondering if anyone had some suggestions on good areas to stay. I'm looking mostly for safe, discrete areas. I tend to prefer vacation rentals over hotels but any advice for the area would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Chesapeake or Virginia Beach has some good hotels

Hey Mina!

I'm a Virginia native, and I can tell you that the best places to stay in Norfolk. Honestly, I would stick to downtown Norfolk. There are tons of really nice, upscale places, and all of them are within walking distance of some of the best nightlife, restaurants, and museums in Virginia.

There are probably a few other places that are okay, but I honestly wouldn't chance it. Norfolk is one of those cities where if you move the wrong direction by a block or two, you're in the ghetto. Lol. It's also a military town, so there are very few hotels that are respectable. Military guys generally don't care about how nice a place is or the area, so most of the Norfolk hotels are just cheap and don't concern themselves with cleanliness or how they look.

If you have any questions about certain places, feel free to email me and I'll try and help you out!

XOXO,
Celeste
