I can't take you seriously anymore, snafoon. If you don't like religious and political discussion, find a basket weaving discussion board and attack somebody there.

Art who?  Oh him.

We've just had record cold for all of April.  I've heard of crops are being totally lost in many states. We have beehives dying by the thousands. Moreover, I heard on NPR today that some farmers are not planting crops due to the crackdown on immigration.

I am worried about what is going to happen to farmers and what is going to happen to food prices.  More than likely, we are going to have to buy from overseas.  With import controls and protection on our farmers, that means Congress and the President must change some trade laws first.  It will also add to debt.

Maybe I'm being too alarmist, I do that sometimes, but the totality of this sounds like "The Perfect Storm."

BTW, I categorically do not mean to imply this has to do with global warming, but this widespread cold snap (if you could call three weeks a "snap") has amazing.

we've not seen before in farmland. and congress is getting ready to lay more largess on them to promote biofuels

and the weather is a minor concern as well, what's REALLY driving price is ethanol. the demand for corn has placed acreage at a premium and it's coming at the epense of other crops like soybean ands wheat.

grain shortages will effect protien prices as this is feed for cows, chickens, pigs.

actually, the perfect storm for ALL commidities has been going on for quite some time in regards to metals and other raw materials

what will REALLY be interesting is what is going to happen in the future regarding genetics and crop yields.

This was just an information query, not a political position.

i figured as much. it's an area of which i have interest as well. of course there are political consideration, subsidies, energy policy, ect...but it is also a topic of great human concern as well...

we have'nt even mentioned another big one..

potable water.

think about the fact that in the last couple of years, China as gone from being the third largest exporter of corn to now being a net importer.

On a more argumentative note, i'm wondering what's going to happen [this season at least] to the many immigrants "who pick our food, wash our clothes, mind our kids..."  With fewer crops to pick this year, will they decamp back to the sunnier if less economically well-endowned climes from which they sprung?

Think of this as a small test run of Bush's immigration reform proposals, specifically the "guest worker" component, who are supposed to leave the US after 3 years of honest toil in El Norte and reapply for admission from their countries of origin.

I am curious to see how any of this aspect plays out.

kind of sand that is needed for fiber optics and computers and such.  All the sand in Hawaii might get used up.  And that may be more important than food!

But, in regards to food, Arnold, the Austrian blubber boy-- I mean Oak will think of some kind of special guest worker deal so the Mexican pepper bellies can pull carrots and cut celery and pick strawberries and such.

when the ag industry was still trying to feed the armies in europe and the pacific AND feed 5 million displaced refugees in the same.  Biofuel will drive the market for the next decade until the genetics catch up.  Think about computers in the 60's.  NASA had computers as big as cars that did complex arithmatic that cost millions each.  There is more power in the sum total of laptops in a modern city high school today than all computers in the nation in the 60's.

I'm far from a greenie, but what I have read and listened to, those "in the know" believe that a decade from now, our harvest-per-acre will increase 50-fold while the technology driving the distillation, or production, of the end result will by simplified by the same.  MN Gov. Tim Pawlenty stated that the Midwest will be the Persian Gulf of the bio-fuel era.  Lotsa dreaming involved, but then again, how many thought Bill Gates was a dumbass for trying to build a personal computer in his garage.......

you will do yourself favor not trying to plan your life by it or keep yourself awake about the dissapearing bee hives..  Go to bed instead and get up fresh, forget TER for a few hours and go find a job where you can use your intellect that you try to display countless times a day in here trying to get the last word.

MARS!  dodos - we just do not have enough data to predict.... sheese.  and lame brain out of work politocos... who jet around making "documentaries" out of thin air - really are not helpful in an open and truth finding exercise... that's right... keep the data that supports YOUR agenda, and dump the data that don't fit the hypothesis.... wow, thats good science.

So why is Mars warming?  are we running up the temp with the Mars rover?  enquiring minds what to know! lol!
