in the US, either party can get in trouble if an exchange of money takes place.  As I read the canadian law, it appears only the hobbyist at risk.  Said another way, if a date takes a donation and then says that this person paid me for sex, does the provider get in trouble?  does the hobbyist?  Is it a she said/he said kind of thing?  It's fair to assume everything is confidential and private, but I wouldn't want to head to toronto only to arrange a date and have someone walk out of the room with my donation simply saying that she can't become more intimate with me, even if she wanted to.

I'm curious how this varies from the US's rules?  I can't think either the client or provider would want to tell LE they just paid or received $ for sex.  If it's a cash transaction, that would be bought to prove.  Perhaps the market just becomes more about independents than agencies

Hi, I am not entirely versed on the US laws, but it's pretty much business as usual. However, screening has tightened up for most independents and some websites are now password accessible only. Vocabulary used in  ads are now 'read between the lines' so to speak and most boards are not tolerating explicit reviews or anything suggestive that could potentially lead to unnecessary attention. Jas.

Whereas the hobby is illegal for both parties in the USA, in the usual case in Canada the hobbyist will be the only one breaking the law. This is called the "Nordic model" after the Swedes who concocted it. It's illegal to buy, but NOT illegal to sell. Providers are now considered "victims" and are offered counselling and ways to get out of the business.

The way many of us are dealing with this is to line-up trustworthy providers and build our own reputation with them. I have built up my own rep with six local agencies, so I trust they want my business and will protect our relationship.

The same with independents, although these tend to retire so a pooner's reputation with independents in general may die off by attrition. Long-standing independents with good reviews should be good to initiate an appointment with.

It's important now not to piss off a SP, as they could rat you out. This may have a chilling effect on reviews, I think I am beginning to see it.

For now, avoid new SPs as they may be a sting operation. The legality of stings is in question, but time will likely tell.

There is also the issue of enforcement, a crap shoot at best. Some jurisdictions are less enthusiastic, e.g; Ontario, than others about enforcement.

thanks.  It makes me rethink my quarterly trips to Toronto.  The provider has nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Things are going to be in quite a  bit of flux for a while. Check back every 3 months or so as things _likely_ get clearer.

The top 10 provider tool on TER is a the best tool I have seen for finding top quality reliable SPs in large Canadian cities. You should be OK if you use it.

How has new law affected hotel dates? Anything on hazelton or park hyatt?

No change that I know of, seems like business as usual, so far.

I am wondering something. If you have an apartment or hotel room in Toronto and you get a girl from the agency to come to you, should you not be basically 100% safe? The agency should not have any problem with LE. Unless LE is going to follow the girl to your apartment or hotel and then get a warrant to enter your place and charge you with procuring, then I have no idea how they can enforce this absurd law. Canada used to have intelligent laws, pertaining to prostitution, just like most of the other countries in the world. Then the impotent old men in the Canadian Parliament put Canada back in the dark ages with the stroke of a pen. All the while these guys are seeing their prostitutes on a regular basis. Can we spell hypocrisy?
