Have as much sex as you can!  If I go for long periods without sex, I have occasional difficulty with erections.  If I am in an intensely sexual relationship I can have sex several times a day.  It's the "use it or lose it" syndrome.  And yes, healthy diet and so forth helps.  I'm 63 btw.

As us males get older we sometimes can't get an erection at will. I remember when I was younger a old timer telling me the secret to a long sex life was to stay in good shape and have a good diet. How true it is the little blue pill is a good thing if you need it but take care of yourself and your penis will take care of you. Love Goddess what are your thoughts on this subject?

Hiya nutandbolt,
Well, I'm always a proponent for good nutrition and good health in general!

Two things I believe are very detrimental to a good boner - smoking and alcohol. Both restrict blood flow to the brain and to the penis. As to foods, well, I'm not a big fan of big, greasy meals or loads of sugar either. It seems to me that the Mediterranean diet is a good one: lots of tomatoes, moderate amounts of animal products, easy on dairy, an absence of deep-fried foods, and many antioxidants in fruits, legumes and complex grains. Taking a swig off the virgin olive oil bottle once a day is a good one! [It may also be the only virgin you'll be able to enjoy daily, LOL.] The monounsaturated fats in olive oil will keep the ticker from going bad..or from bad to worse, as it may be.

I believe the most important substance for anyone these days - since it's clearly lacking in our processed diet - is omega-3 fatty acid. Yes, you can get it from fatty fish, but another very good source is actually ground flax seeds. You can buy it in oil form, but not everyone is fond of the taste. Capsules are OK, but you need to take lots of them daily to feel an effect. Fish oil has high amounts of omega-3, but again, you need to be concerned with purity. So I say, buy some ground flax seed and sprinkle a couple of tablespoons on your cereal! Omega-3 is not just for the heart, it's truly for general well-being. And hey, give some to your SO as well, she could probably use it to balance her hormones...

And that's the nutritional tip of the day,

so I eat at least one banana a day (very rich in the stuff.)

You are what you eat.

This article is rom "Wellness Advisor" on the  Nature Made company website:

As early as 160 B.C., the Greek poet Eunuchus wrote, “Without good eating and drinking, love grows cold.”
Food, drink, and herb have been used as aphrodisiacs through the centuries in the hope that their special ingredients would somehow enhance a person’s allure and sexual stamina. While an advisory panel to the Food and Drug Administration reported that it could find no evidence to support claims of improved sexual satisfaction from over-the-counter aphrodisiac products, there is backing for at least some of the folk wisdom that has been passed down through the ages.

A peek at Popular Aphrodisiacs:

• Chocolate has long been dubbed the food of love, its romantic reputation attributed to the fact that it is rich in the chemical phenylethylamine. It is thought that phenylethylamine or some similar chemical in the brain goes up when we meet the right person. Chocolate also contains a small amount of caffeine, which stimulates the release and action of epinephrine – one of the brain messengers that is associated with sexual arousal. The sugar added to chocolate offers a quick form of energy. Together, these ingredients may enhance arousal in some people.

• Figs were a favorite food of love for the ancient Greeks. Figs are a good source of niacin, which improves circulation to all parts of the body, and of magnesium, which is needed to produce sex hormones.

• Asparagus was consumed as part of an old English custom in which a quantity of asparagus was boiled each morning for three consecutive days to galvanize the libido. Asparagus is also a good source of niacin.

• Fish and shellfish have been considered foods for love in many cultures. “Eat Oysters, Love Longer,” boasted the Oyster Institute of North America in a recent campaign. That exaggerated claim is based on the fact that oysters are exceptionally rich in zinc. This mineral has been associated with an increase in sperm motility, which theoretically may increase a man’s fertility. Zinc also helps reduce inflammation of the prostate, a problem that can put a crimp in any man’s love life. Omega-3 fatty acids, found in seafood, are fuel for the production of prostaglandins, hormone-like substances vital to the nervous system and very important to the sexual response.

• Bananas have long been equated with sexual prowess perhaps because in addition to potassium, a mineral essential for the proper functioning of the muscles and nerves, bananas provide vitamin B-6 required for the production of brain messengers.

In the long run, the poet Eunuchus probably had the best advice: Good food and good drink –a healthy diet—plus regular exercise is the best recipe for a healthy love life.

Tips to Keep You Romantically Fortified

♥ Eat fish twice a week to ensure an adequate amount of omega-3 fatty acids and zinc.

♥ Include plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grains for B vitamins that are needed for brain messengers associated with sexual arousal.

♥ Don’t smoke. Nicotine increases the chances of infertility in women and impotence in men.

♥ Exercise. Research shows that middle-aged men who exercise on a regular basis are more lusty than their less active counterparts.

♥ Check medications. Some may have side effects that adversely affect sexual activity. Be sure to consult your physician or pharmacist because the label may not offer this information.
