This is the legal corner board. I don't see any rules about posts needing to related to  this hobby. In fact, the guidelines for this board clearly show that any type of legal discussion is appropriate, as long as the people here do not rely on it for legal advice.

when you sue someone in small clamis do you do it in you city or theres

anywhere you can get personal jurisdiction.  [email protected] I will explain

Unless you plan on a suit that claims a provider reneged on a deal (ie, she ripped you off) then this post is out of place.

Good luck on the suit too.  "Your honor, I showed up and paid her to screw my brains out, but she only gave me a lap dance and a hand job.  She was out the door in 15 minutes."

Use some common sense.  We all know the purpose of TER.  This is a legal board on TER - and we all know the intent of it's existence and what SHOULD be posted here.  This isn't it.

I will disagree with you again. As long as there are people willing to answer these legal questions then I don't see anything wrong with posting them. In the past we've had good discussions about rental/landlord disputes, small claims courts, immigration related matters.

Gentlemen, this is a moderated board.  That means the moderator gets to decide what is appropriate and what isn't.  When he sees these posts he'll make the call.  Going back and forth like this only adds to the clutter.

I see off-topic posts on TER all the time.  The occasional non-hobby question isn't such a big deal.

Gee. I guess your post kind of answers your own retort about this being a moderated board, adding to clutter, etc?

If you're in LA County, go to the courthouse and pick up a small claims form.  It's all there. Or, better, look on the website for the county in which you live.  Click small claims and it'll tell you.

Actually, the proper venue would be where the claim arose or where the Defendant resides.

Like all good legal answers, this one begins, "It depends. . . ."  Every state is different.  In my state, venue lies EITHER where you live or the defendant does.  Jurisdiction lies anywhere within the state, as long as the defendant lives there.  Does your local courthouse have a public law library you can use?  Look in the small claims part of your code.  Now, if you live in a different state, I'd say you probably need to sue the person in their home state, and in their home city or county court.

In NYC, it is where the defendent resides.  If the event happend here and the defendent moves, you're out of luck.

I'm bored and just clicking on the boards  of TER and not reading. I'm not reading these messages nor will read what you answer back. But I was stupid enough to believe my neighbor that be was going to pay the damages to my car. He didn't. The Sheriff couldn't serve a court thing. Servers said that it would be difficult to serve them if they hide and don't open the door.
I got a little bit even but not completely. I know I will move before they do and that will be the day I will get even evenly and fairly. Trying to follow the laws was a total waste of time.
I have never have nothing to do with it. I never been arrested or anything. There have been reasons but I've been careful.
Anyways, don't trust anybody, get even if there is no other way and don't waste your time in small courts that won't do nothing for you. Oh yeah, I forgot even the court stole my serving and money for the suing.
