I think a lot of people make the mistake of actually going to see the police in question when confronted by them and 'told' to report to the police station (assuming you don't have a wife to worry about). Trust me, the less time you spend in the hands of the police, the better. Ask directly if you are legally compelled to visit the local PD. As with a lot of things the police do, they frame it in a way that you think you have no legal choice but you generally do.
When being questioned by the police the first and last thing you should say is 'I want my lawyer', that is if s/he isn't already sitting next to you.
In your case it may of actually been illegal for the local PD to 'trace' the numbers without a court order. In case like this they generally prey on the humilation of the john. Bad lazy cop - no donut.
i made an apt. to see a girl i have had my eye on for a while now and an hour before i was ment to see her i got a call from her (about 10pm) saying she could not see me bec. she just got out of jail.
the cops did a sting at her apartment and took her in. i felt bad for her and wanted to comfort her, but being the strangers that we are i really did not know how to do that.

Is it worth it? Is getting busted worth it for you? If it is then go for it. Cops are smart - they'll go for the easy bust so if she is still working from her same apartment then her chances of being busted again go up.
The flip side is whether or not they question you. Last week I got called in to the local watering hole "police department" because a girl I've had a few visits with got busted. Her cell phone was confiscated, they downloaded the numbers traced them and I got a notice telling me to show. They threatened all kinds of things, the only realistic one was letting the wife know about my hobbying. But the wife knows and supports it, so I had no worries.
