Sports Talk

:(

I was born in Louisville in the late 50's so I have a natural affection for him. Rest in peace Champ.

A tremendous fighter; a man of principle and conviction; he truly was larger than life.

Overlooking the city while on a flight to DC he said he could knock on any door and they would know who he was.

Also, the deference to him by other athletes, particularly boxers, was evident.

I remember seeing Ali on a talk show with boxer Thomas Hearns. The host was talking about how many belts Hearns had won (Hearns was the first to win 4) and asked Hearns if he thought he was the greatest fighter. Hearns humbly looked over at Ali and said " Nah champ. You the greatest, champ"

he was. Always love his sense of humor. If you don't believe me, ask Howard Cosell.

I would suggest that Pele at his peak might come close, but admittedly I do so without any real conviction. He's the only person I can think to even suggest that wouldn't be immediately dismissed.
