So said someone in the SI article. The last time the Cubs won was in 1908...which I believe was the year that Bonehead Fred Merkle didn't touch 2nd base after what would been a pennant clinching hit by the Giants, and an alert HOF 2nd basement Johnny Evers calling for the ball, resulting in a force out at 2nd that nullified the winning run. Cubs beat the Giants afterward to win the pennant, and then the WS. Since then, nothing but curses, Billy Goats, fans trying to catch foul balls in the stands leading to 8 run, two out rallies, Babe Ruth pointing to CF, and hitting the next pitch there, and black cats.
Despite that, this just may be the year the agony finally ends. This Yankee fan would not mind seeing the Cubbies exact a measure of revenge against the Mets or Red Sux, especially...nope! And I have no illusions about my team being in the final dance this year...we're in rebuilding mode.
