If it's a hotel where you enter through the lobby, I'd say dress the part:
in business attire, carry a brief case
in casual, an over night case
sports clothes, a gym bag
You want to look like you belong.
By all means wait to greet until the door closes.
Ladies, if in a hotel with an elavator... tell the client "through the lobby & to the left" so the guy doesn't look lost because he isn't!
I believe a lot of hotels know perfectly well what's going on, but as I've said before they can't (and should not be expected to) take the heat for flagrant activities.
