Didn't they say they knew the rule but thought it was (laughably) unintentional?

grants the Seahawks another MNF reprieve ("Fail Mary" followed by illegal batting of the ball, or not), and once again the hapless Lions get jobbed by another incompetent crew of zebras.

The misery of this Lions' fan continues!

Didn't they say they knew the rule but thought it was (laughably) unintentional?

Unfortunately when you have a situation that calls for a split second judgment without the benefit of a replay, you often get the wrong call. Here, what everyone at home saw as an "intentional batting of the football" out of the end zone, the back judge felt (again in his one second to look at the play) it was not intentional enough to warrant a flag. So be it.

Yes, the Lions got screwed on Monday (as they got a bad call against Dallas in last year's playoff game), but these judgment calls happen EVERY Sunday. From pass interference (either calls or non calls), to penalties etc., games are often won or lost on a ref's decision at a crucial juncture of the game. But that's football and why its so difficult to predict outcomes. These games often turn on one big play (or in this case a blown call). The bottom line is don't put yourself in a position where a single call can cost you the game. Period.  Besides, the Lions were putrid for much of Monday night. If they had played better offensively for the first 58 minutes, they may have actually been in a stronger position to win. Yes, Detroit got a bad call, but let's be honest. Seattle was clearly the better team.

You can't bring up the Failed Mary...that call was made by replacement refs who had as much business officiating a game as you or I.

Yes, obviously they were clearly the better team as evidenced by their whopping 13 total points against the Lions Defense of all teams.

Although Seattle's defense looked to be Super Bowl worthy, their offense looked fairly inept against a subpar Defense.

Beating a hapless 0-3 team on MNF by a 13-10 score, a victory secured by a blown call (albeit a split-second decision that was deemed erroneous by the NFL), after the aforementioned team had driven 90 yards before Chancellor makes a superstar play, is nothing to write home about.

Being 1-3 and returning home following a huge win in a hostile environment, is a whole lot different than being 0-4, and quite possibly very deflated.

Their season could be changed by this blown call, and Caldwell more than likely will eventually lose his job because of it.

es, the Lions got screwed out of a potential victory. In spite of their offensive ineptness for 58 minutes (they had only scored a defensive touchdown to that point), somehow they found themselves still in the game. Seattle did what good teams aren't suppose to do, and that is let an inferior opponent hang around. If you are the better team (and Seattle clearly is), then you need to bury your opponent. Seattle did not and they were fortunate enough to be saved by an erroneous call. Next time, the call goes against Seattle and they loose. As I said, this happens every Sunday. Good teams overcome official error. Bad teams do not.

I agree with you that recovering from 0-4 is a tough (not impossible) task, but if your season is derailed by this one bad call, then frankly the season was going nowhere anyway. And the Lions have only themselves to blame for their predicament. How about protecting a 21-3 lead in week one against an average Charger team??? How about showing up against the Vikings in week 2 who aren't going to confuse anyone with Fran Tarkenton and the Purple People Eaters. The Lions have better talent than the Vikings and that's a game they could have won. Yes I'll concede that winning against the Broncos (even at home) and Seattle were very tough tasks. But the Lions at this point could easily be 2-2 and should certainly be no worse than 1-3.

Frankly, I don't think Jim Caldwell is that great of a coach, so maybe him loosing his job is not all that bad.  He's okay.  BB looses Brady for a year and still gets 10 wins out of New England. Caldwell doesn't have Peyton for a year and the Colts go 2-14....just saying

Full time officials.

Also, it will never happen, but the officials (along with umpires and officials of all sports) should have to fact the media after a game.

Thank you
50 = 5

probably because there are more and better cameras now but in too many games there are obvious (ie on camera) blown calls.

I counter the argument of don't let yourself lose by one bad call to why should I be able to win from one bad call???

Exactly! NFL is going to start losing fans with all of it's inconsistencies.. You can't blow crucial calls in the game AND drag on in the offseason about things no one cares about! the NFL need to prioritize and quickly!
