John Oliver kicks ass - check out the fake church he started - it really works.

I could not be happier that this is occurring. Some of you will remember the raid on a Swiss hotel earlier this year where a large number of FIFA executives were hauled off by the authorities at the behest of the United States, but at that stage, Sepp Blatter, the president of FIFA, was not one of them.

Which, to all and sundry, seemed nothing short of incredible.

Now however to see this news puts a genuine skip in my step. Soccer has for too long been under the finger of this odious mafioso-wannabe, keeping himself in power by effectively changing the rules of FIFA as he sees fit, and relying on the voting power afforded to lesser nations, whose wheels are greased incredibly thoroughly by the money Mr Blatter has awarded them (the very short version: all the money made from World Cups is divided equally among all of FIFA's member nations. USA receives the same amount as San Marino, Germany receives the same amount as Vanuatu. When it comes time to elect a president of FIFA, each country's association head has one vote, regardless of their standing in world soccer. The poor, now made rich by this man, are given the opportunity to keep him in power. With no genuine footballing interest in their country to rival the significance of the money that flows in, it is bribery at its most transparent.).

However, as utterly conspicuous and evidently wrong this might appear, it is also not inherently illegal. Mr Blatter's business dealings on the other hand merit more than a cursory glance. World Cups being awarded to countries where it makes no sense to hold them (you *cannot* play soccer in Qatar in the summer), a company being run as a non-profit having a multi-million and possibly even multi-billion dollar 'reserve' fund, hands so deep in political pockets that laws are either created from scratch or rewritten entirely to suit FIFA's needs, sponsorship deals that are at best described as 'troublesome', the list goes on and on.

All the while, this serpent of a man claims ignorance, that he cannot know what everyone beneath him is doing at all times, despite that being the sole responsibility for which he was elected.

I cannot begin to tell you how happy this news makes me. I sincerely hope that this marks the start of a true sea change at FIFA, one that has been necessary for decades at this stage.

You might think Roger Goodell is incompetent, you might find Gary Bettman annoying, I personally can't wait for the walking zombie that is Bud Selig to finally shuffle off this mortal coil, but none of them compare to this piece of human garbage. Lock him up, and give soccer back to the people that care about it.
