Re: Run-in with LE

First of all, educate yourself on your constitutional rights. Keeping yourself out of trouble really is not that hard. Stick with well reviewed and multiple reviewed providers.

I like to recommend a video that the ACLU put out years ago. I think it is called "Busted, a guide to police encounters." Something like that. Of course it does not deal with hobbying but it is a kinda goofus and gallant type presentation that teaches you what you can and can do when encountered by police. It blows my mind how many people surrender their rights against searches and seizures, etc. Some laws differ depending on the state.

You might do well to look for that video,ACLU wesite might be a good place to check. I saw the video of all places on cable access TV.

Has anyone on here ever had a run-in with LE? Any advice as to what the best course of action would be?

Keep your lawyer's number handy.

1. think with your head(the big one)

2. use common sense.

3. Listen to your Gut Intuitions.

4. See Well reviewed Ladies Only with consistant reviews.

5. Be aware of your surroundings.

Other than that...the only time you should have a run in with LE on your way to see a Lady...is if you get pulled over for speeding.
Play safe and be smart.

It's basically a parking ticket on steroids. Just like a parking ticket you're NOT going to talk your way out of it and you'll probably just be ‘cited’ and released at the scene.
The fine will be many times LESS costly than an attorney who can promise you nothing, and unless you're a high profile public official or have a job that regularly gives you a colonoscopy for turpitude this low level misdemeanor is about as problematic long term to your life as a ticket for “excessive speed”.

I got popped by a LE “decoy” sting at a popular “Stroll” some 15 years ago. Since the advent of the internet, TER, and its review system I have not so much as smelled bacon let alone seen it in nearly 10 years.

There are TONS of posts on the Legal Corner board (look Left) offering some very good advice on LE encounters. The most simplistic breakdown of what to do during an LE encounter is STFU!!
(Shut The Fuck Up! - in case that's a new one to you)
But to get more details just do a search on LE on the Legal board, and you'll find loads of advice. I know the advice helped calm my reservations...

Sure.  I've been pulled over by them a few times in my life and been given speeding tickets.

Now, as for whether this has happened in relation to the hobby...then no, never has happened to me.

then really Shut The F$%k Up some more.  It's the only way.  You cannot talk your way out of it, you cannot explain, you cannot make it better with your words.  Most jurisdictions require personal observation by the officer or admissions by the suspect for probable cause and, later, conviction.  If they didn't see the po-po get dipped, STFU. You are only required by law to identify yourself, after that, you don't and SHOULDN'T say another word.

Oh, one more thing. Shut Up. I don't do criminal representation anymore, but when I did, my card had two words on the back:  Shut Up.

There are multiple threads on this subject on the Legal Corner Board.  I suggest you read them, but, to sum it up, they basically say (scroll down)

SHUT UP!!

:-)

I have to agree.  LE has NOTHING except what you give them.  Anything you say, gives them more information...  which can be used to hang your ass.  No physical resistance.  Just decline to answer questions.

When LE says that the gal has already given them information implicating you, that is almost always a pack of lies.  Don't fall for it.

Also, never lie:  That is a felony.  (It's what landed Martha Stewart in the clink.)

Just say politely:  "I choose not to answer any question."

Note:  In most areas, you do have to show an ID with name and address, but that's the end of it.

(still not a lawyer)

is a direct federal violation. Short of taking this to the Legal board, maybe you know. . .

Wouldn't most state and local jurisdictions need to apply some sort of obstruction of justice or aiding a criminal charge? I'm not advocating lying. Never a good idea. I'm just curious if states have laws that are so direct as the federal one.

All great advice, the answer really lies here in TER and it is stated time and time and Time again. See only reviewed woman, and woman screen and see only referenced Men. Its really that simple. Do these basic things and you should never have to worry.
I have never had a problem with the proper screening and don't believe I ever will. Always listen to my Gut Intuitions though. I highly recommend that above all.

to employ an Obstruction or similar charge as a consequence to lying.  Lying in and amongst itself is not illegal absent an oath or affirmation under the pains and penalties of perjury (even for Feds), but lying to impede or obstruct an official investigation is a definite no-no.

The problem is that almost nobody is equipped to spar with a cop when encountered.  They are trained and have great experience catching people in lies and twisting words around to make it look like you have lied.  That is why it is imperative that a person says NOTHING beyond simple identifying information when confronted by LE.

As Mr. Fisher said, be prepared for LIES upon LIES from LE in an effort to get you to make an admission against your interest.  Not only is it allowed by law, as crazy as it sounds, a cop is not really doing his job if he doesn't try to trick you.  Their job is simply to catch you and gather evidence for prosecution.

Good Luck

when I go to appts. I have a separate purse with my toys, condoms, etc. in it.  I DO NOT carry my id.  It is advisable to carry my id just in this case??? But I dont want to chance the client will see it.

What if they start searching my belongings, etc??? I am sure they can do that-- I assume again "shut up".  What if they want to keep my purse but allow me to leave??? am I not allowed by my rights to take it with me???

be able to keep it.  However, and most importantly, what LE SHOULD do, and what they ACTUALLY do are frequently different things entirely.  Chances are, though, they will not want to keep your purse without keeping you because there would be no point.  As you describe it, it would not be contraband outside 1600's Puritan New England.

You are not required to carry ID on you unless you are driving.  You should be prepared, though, that LE may want to verify your identification, but they are not allowed to arrest you just to do that (unless, of course, you happen to match a description of a suspect in another crime previously broadcasted, which is lottery type unlikely).

Good Luck

I do not carry my id into an appt. Nothing but in the pocket of my little purse aside from condoms is my cell phone, car keys and my lawyers card. Everything else stays in the car. Maybe its not safer but I feel it is. So thats where it stays. I screen well so I don't plan to be arrested or in any trouble with LE of any kind.
