Yes, can anyone else both provider and hobbyist offer any advice on the original posting question.  I had a young 20 year old independent provider (with no reviews) ask me for drivers license number, home phone, work number and address.

It just seems like too much to give. What is the reason for asking such detail?

I asked the provider whether she runs the driver's license number through publicly available verification websites; to which she responded "Yes"

What is their reason for asking for such detail; what do they do with the information?

I was in the middle of setting up an appointment with a very well reviewed provider.  She asked me a lot of detailed questions, including part of my driver's license #, address, and my full name on the license.  I've never been asked to provide this before, and she said it's just for verification purposes.  Is this normal?  As I mentioned before, she has great reviews on TER and a website, but people come up with all kinds of scams.  Please advise!!

understand that she will only see you if she is comfortable with the info she receives.  Asking for DL # and personal address from the license goes too far for me, so, personally I would just move on.  She has every right to ask for it, but you can move on just as much as she can reject.  2 way street.

Good Luck

I can understand giving your full name and even what city you live in, but license# and full address is a bit too much for me. Maybe not a scam, but if she has your full name and city that is all she needs for verification purposes, I think.

A provider requires what she feels comfortable with for her screening purposes.  If you are not comfortable with the level of information she requires, move on, rather than try and negotiate with her to accept less.  In the end, its your decision.  Either provide what she asks for or seek a provider whose prescreening is more in line with your comfort level.

Its not rocket science.  Just common sense.

First - Unless the provider is well known and has a substantial number of reviews I would never give out such detailed information.

Second - Providers that screen well are the safest ones to book with. It shows they care about security and safety, which includes you as well as them.

Third – Experienced providers that screen well (to the point that they care about a lot of personal details) will most often accept (or even demand) the use of a professional screening service such as Preferred 411, Date Check or Room Service 2000. These services WILL ask for as many and more details than most providers. The nice thing though is that it is easier to trust them than a “new” provider, plus you only have go through the process once.
