Picking the BEST QB in history is like picking the best hooker

It's a fun mental exercise trying to pick just one, but it's an effort in futility. For the record, I put both Joe Montana and Tom Brady way up towards the top of my personal list, but just like hookers, I am not even going to try to narrow it down to just one.

One of the best, for sure.  But I would rate Joe Montana, Bart Starr, and Terry Bradshaw up there as well.  They won as many, or more, NFL Championships.  There are many others that deserve mention as well...

naturally gifted athlete to play the position. i don't mean physically but mentally (his football IQ). when he was a ROOKIE his position coach, Sam Wyche, said he only had to tell/show Montana once and he would understand, remember, and apply it in during a game.

Brady is just a tireless grinder(he acts  like he doesnt deserve  being  a starter) with the right mindset to succeed.

Marino had the best arm. His accuracy was incredible. He could hit the top or bottom hole of the #8 if he wanted too.

Elway the strongest will to win. He literally CARRIED a team to 3 SB with only 3,4 good players.

Bradshaw is not on my list.

I cant speak to the old timers e.g. Starr, Unitas etc.

Although I am a huge Joe Montana fan, I must rank Tom Brady slightly ahead of Mr. Montana, and, for me, winning the most recent Super Bowl was the deciding factor (combined with all of his other accomplishments of course).

Rounding out my Top 5 would be Elway, Unitas, and P. Manning.

The rules today heavily favor offense. The numbers are exaggerated. 300 yard games are commonplace. I am not going to annoint Brady the best ever. I'd love to see what the QBs from the 60s and 70s could do now. Back then they threw deep more often and took much more punishment than modern day passers.

..............you do know when, how, why and who was most instrumental in the NFL's drastic defensive change, right?
And an FYI, TB had 3 SB wins/2 SB MVP's prior to their change.
SB MVP's should have/would have been 3 except he was involved in litigation with Cadillac (major sponsor).

In case you don't know, this is a good read/starting point to find out.
