Oh, of course not! And, that's not even what I was addressing. First of all, the reviews are filed (unless fraud is involved) by the hobbyist, so the age range is filled in by them. Second, if the first reviewer were to list someone who is 40 as 27, it wouldn't make a difference what the representation underneath was. (One can lie that they were born in 1980 just as easily as they can lie that they're 27 years old.)

I don't think lying about age is that much of a problem, what I think is a problem is that a provider who's been in the business for 8 years, remains at the same age as her first review.

I definitely didn't mean any of what I wrote as a slam on any provider at all. Providers don't have control over the reviews, and I totally understand that.

As TER grows, I think that perhaps when storing the age, it should be stored as a "year of birth" rather than 18-20. Why? Because, I've seen quite a few 18-20's that are now 21-25's. If year of birth (approximate, obviously) were stored instead, those ages would always be accurate.

It could STILL be displayed as age ranges. Just that a year after being categorized as 18-20, a providers new age range would now be 19-21. That way we wouldn't have to do all that messy addition and subtraction. Underneath, (for today), it would have stored: 1988-1986

(Apologies to Heather for using her as an example (who isn't in my state, and I've never seen)) But, for instance, Heather can't POSSIBLY be 21-25 anymore. She must be at the very least 27, given that she's had reviews from Jan 2000.

What do we think?

You know, it isn't always the provider who lies. Recently, someone found a profile on me (pirated of course) that listed my age as 27!!! I was floored and annoyed. That means that I have to make a point to tell people who find me through that site my real age. I'd hate to book someone who thinks they're meeting a 20-something only to be surprised by a woman who's 40! So uncool!!

be corrected by a problem report....and I would bet that most of the guys on ter are smart enough to add figure out that someone who has been in the business for 8 years probably isn't 18yo.....problem reports keep ages up to date......

OK. But, then,

A. reviews get "fixed" one at a time after manual intervention from the Gods of TER.
B. Someone searching for ages 26-30, wouldn't even SEE the 18 year old who started 8 years ago.
C. Someone searching for ages 18-20 (Me!) would have to do all that math. (Us Humberts have the least problem, I'd say. The bigger problem is for those B people.)

If it were just stored as hypothetical years, then no manual intervention would be necessary, and reviews would age gracefully.
