tracking wireless access

At work there is a free wireless network; it does not ask for password, we just have to click "OK" to usage conditions.  My question is whether I can safely surf TER using this or if this can be tracked to my laptop?

Also this was listed as an alternate access point 195.85.135.21.
If I surf using this address, will it conceal the nature of this site from IT-police?

BTW, I know work is not recommended, but surfing at home is also dangerous.  Thanks

The wireless card in your laptop has a MAC address that is unique.  That information is visible to the router.  Whether they maintain a log to track this and monitor the sites visited is up to them.

Also, at least in Windows, your PC will have a "name" used when connected to a network.  This is also picked up by the router.  It would be quite embarrassing if that name were something like "ROFR's Laptop."

An ISP sees all and knows all.  If you are their customer then they can see where you go.  They don't generally care.  Unless your wife is administering your home network, the way sh will discover you is by looking over your shoulder.  To me it seems much easier to make sure that doesn't happen than hoping the network admins at work are aslep or indifferent.

I really think you should not see this site from work. It's dangerous. Even if you have free wireless, that is connected to your work network, hence it's pretty much as being hooked up.

You might check if you laptop has a automated vpn connection. In that case, every time you connect from any place you are connecting to your work's network and the risk is the same.

I would rather have to give explanations to my woman than get my ass fired.

Just my two cents
