According to the American Heritage Dictionary a hobby is defined as:
hobᄋby1   n.   pl., hobᄋbies. An activity or interest pursued outside one's regular occupation and engaged in primarily for pleasure. –hobbyᄋist n.

Now if that doesn't sum up the whole thing in a nutshell (or sac) then I don't know what else you would call it! LOL

I still like your answers better :oP

I was chatting with a civilian yesterday about the hobby (Geez - how quickly I succumb to the lingo of the sport!), and he asked why the term "hobby" was used define this activity.  I have searched the messages and the Newbie board and can't find any info on this.  Do you "veterans" of the sport have any insight or info on the origin of the term "hobby" as it relates to this activity?

Its just like my other "hobbies", spend some money, have a little fun, and can't wait for the opportunity to do "it" again.

I think it is because it is like golf.   Putters, strokes, holes, balls, and just about anyone can do it  but not everyone can do it well.

Hobby sounds better/nicer than I pay money for s**.
Hobbyist sounds better/nicer than 'john'
Provider sounds better/nicer than a 'prostit***'

Just euphemisms to market it as cleaner/nicer but all about same thing-fun.

Agreed.

Afterall, saying, "I'd paid some broad to let me f**k her" takes too long.
