Frankly I like background music noise which covers outside noises. In a personal sex setting, I like this as well. But there are advantages to having a very quiet location... I can hear people arriving & approaching so there's fewer surprises... time to shut TER off, LOL!
So in a MP setting... not a private provider behind closed doors... a place with a more exposed advertized location... Would you want the spa to have music or white noise or quiet so the receptionist can better hear new arrivals (or perhaps people without an invitation like LEOs).

. . . ask to have it turned off in the room where I'm being serviced, if that's possible. Some places have their speaker system wired throughout to all the rooms and cannot be adjusted individually. I especially can't stand the volume that everyone ten or more years younger than I am seems to need to blast music. If the option to turn it down is available, all I ever need is a barely discernible level of volume. If I can't hear my own heartbeat and my own breathing over the sound of the music, it's too loud for my preferences. I have had some massages where I asked for no music whatsoever.
There are those rare occasions where I actually like the parlor's selection of music and the volume, so I say nothing about altering them.
About three years ago, I began taking my smartphone and placing it just next to my ear with the volume on the lowest setting possible. I set it to the app that plays my favorites, which guarantees that A) every single song will be to my liking, and b) no commercials or DJs. At that low volume, I can still hear my heart and breathing, overall it is the most relaxing accompaniment to a massage.
Side note: low-volume music or no music also allows me to hear the therapist's breathing too. It's voyeuristic on my part, even for legitimate massages. If it's a hard-pressure or medium-pressure massage, she's going to do some deep breathing as she goes along, inwardly, I find that erotic. Additionally, the sounds of her clothing rustling as she moves is part of it too. It can be a simple cloth blouse or t-shirt or smock, a simple pair of pants or shorts or a skirt and stockings/panty hose, nothing elaborate. An even further touch is a four-hand massage where they're talking to each other or whispering to each other in Mandarin. I don't understand a word of it, but hearing them converse makes my imagination wander. They might giggle or laugh about something together, I like that too. I find all of the ambient sounds pleasant and relaxing.

I am so glad to hear that there are some hobbyists that love background music.
The only time I'm aware of the music in an MP or incall is before the fun begins after that I no longer hear it. I do like the typical spa relaxing music it can be calming before a session. A MP in Los Angeles played classic rock kind of an odd choice but I did purchase a lot of music after some of those visits to bad they couldn't get a cut.

Every massage room that I've been in has had a analog clock on the wall that the masseuse used to keep track of time. In FS and nuru places the girls often use timers on their phones. Many places have background music on a loop so it would be difficult to use that to as a timer.
