You have to feel bad for Billy Beane----I really believe he thought this was going to be THE year that the A's would grab the brass ring---and they wind up bounced out early again!! He must be cursed with bad karma in some way!!

I have to admit---when they got Lester I thought nothing would stop the A's from winning it all---(even though they gave up Cespedes I thought that the Sam Fuld/Jonny Gomes platoon would balance out the loss of offense). How many times have you heard the timeless saying...."the best trades are the ones you don't make!!" One of the ultimate sports truths!!

WHAT a way to start the 2014 MLB post-season!! EPIC game!!

Dave Anderson, who is one of the great sportswriters in the nation (NY Times), said that a winner take-all MLB game (like a game 7 or WC) is the greatest event in sports and tonight was a classic example!! Even when Oakland took that 4 run lead I just had a gut feeling that KC had a rally in them. Tell you what---if you're a long-time baseball fan who goes back to the 1970's you have to feel good for the KC fans. From the mid 1970's to the mid 1980'S they had one of the premier franchises in the game!! 29 years of no postseason is an incredible dry spell---those long suffering fans deserve a moment in the spotlight!!

The Angels better be ready to lace up the spikes and do battle---the Royals have a scrappy team with tremendous team speed (stole 7 BASES tonight) and a deep talented bullpen. That type of club is VERY DANGEROUS in a short series!!

the Oakland A's were the Kansas City A's from 1955-1967.

he A's had the best record in baseball (or very close to it) when they decided to add significant pieces to their roster and essentially alter the chemistry of the team. After the second deal (when they acquired Lester), the team completely fell apart. They played horribly down the stretch and barely qualified for the post season. And now, after one game, they are eliminated. Another failed post season for Oakland. While its impressive in this day of parity in sports to qualify three straight years for the playoffs, the fact that the A's put all their chips into the center for the 2014 season, makes this season a complete failure. No other way to look at it....But hey, at least they didn't loose to the Tigers again!

Give the Royals credit. They hung around and continued to scrap and claw until they finally found a way to win it. After 29 years of futility, the Royals have something to celebrate. And if baseball and football have shown us anything over the past several years, its that once you get into the playoffs, any team can win it all. It's why 6 seeds win the Super Bowl in football and why wild card teams win the World Series. The post season is a complete crap shoot
