When a provider asks another for a reference for a client, the essential question she is asking is "would you see him again". Factors that can affect her answer include: did you show up, and leave, on time, your hygiene, your attitude, and whether or not you intimidated/scared/spooked her in any way. These are concerns for both FS providers and FBSM gals.
Many gals request references for indy providers. If you've met an indy massage gal, who has reviews, I'd expect that she could provide enough reassurance to to the provider you are hoping to see that you are OK.

Every provider has a different criteria for what they want in a reference but I'm guessing that, as long as the massage lady is well-established it should be OK.
Yes, on occasion. I will accept a reference from a woman who is just massage if the gentlemen will also provide his work information. A massage from a licensed professional is NOT illegal so therefore I need to make sure that even if the person has a reference from a massage provider, he is still safe.
