I'm thinking about jumping into this profession as an independent, hopefully in the next few months. I recently discovered a book "The Internet Escort's Handbook", written by Amanda Brooks. I would like to know if anyone has read this book, was it good, and is it a good starting point for prospective independents? Thanks.

resource.  Also, see the Newbie Handbook at the top of this board.  Until you get access to the provider board, you may want to e-mail a few veteran ladies in your area for advice.

As for the book, actually it appears to be a series of 4 books, at $24.95 each.

I googled the book name, and found its homepage, it looks like good information.  The chapter descriptions cover a lot of topics you need to think about - hygiene, health, safety, LE avoidance, advertising, screening (yunno, all of the basics), but also running a business, taxes, childcare, health insurance, work/life balance, etc.  The sample chapter is well-written, and is quite helpful.

Potentially this is good info and good advice, but worth the price?

You may want to ask this on the General Discussion board.  It is more likely that you will find a provider who has read the book who can give a recommendation.

on a couple occaisions to discuss matters of the hobby via email.  I have found her to be intelligent, well spoken and inciteful.  Just my $0.02 worth.

I am supplying Amanda Brooks' link below.  An interview of her was conducted on an internet radio station.  It's worth listening to if you can put up with the lousy interviewer.
