It's a bug that crops up once in a while.
If you pass the cursor over the two messages you
will see they have the same message id.

I had a duplicate post which I edited to read "duplicate", but it edited the original as well. When I tried to fix it again, it morphed into showing a different subject line in the message than in the thread board.
Some kind of worm has gotten into your servers, I fear.

If you edit either one, the changes will frequently appear in both message displays. If either is deleted, they both disappear - although sometimes the Moderator will get an error message when attempting to do so and it cannot be deleted.
Because of my techno-dyslecsia I often double or even triple post a message.
If there were just a key that said "delete" when you go to edit, that would cut down on a lot of clutter on the board.
If you just try to delete all text during the edit, it will not "send".
Can a "delete" button be added to the edit function?
