Gentlemen I can honestly say that sharing your contacts with Facebook is even more dangerous, I am careful to have different worlds and NO Facebook because it just gets too scary, but if my email is in your phone for example and you share data with Facebook , it will suck it up
Try and be selective with what you share , because no matter how private your settings are they will still suggest people you may not want to show up JodieRead an interesting article where facebook is using location as one factor in suggesting friends, so if you share anything else - common friends (think seven degrees of separation), kids at the same school etc. you may just be seeing that person again as a facebook suggestion.
Be safe, turn it off.
