The new playoff pairing system shifted the 3-6 and 4-5 first round match-up in each conference. the 1-8 and 2-7 match-ups would have been the same regardless of which system was used. the interesting thing about the new format is that it reintroduces divisional play in order to advance.
The real issue in the West is that, arguably, five teams have a legitimate shot at representing the West in the Cup Final.Go Penguins haha!

It will be interesting to see how this year's "Bracket-style" Playoffs go.
In any other year the (5) Rangers would have faced the (4) Canadiens. Now they get Philly.
Some good teams are going to get bounced out in the first round, especially in the West.
