If it gets it all out in the open, I am all for it

The NCAA has been pimping out these kids for too long, and for every kid who makes it big there are a dozen who end up with no education, or no more than a very shoddy one, a banged up body, and no prospects for the future, while in the meantime College sports are a multi billion dollar enterprise.

I am usually known as an anit union kind of guy, but in this case if it leads to college kids, and not just the superstars, getting at least a small piece of the money they make possible by their sweat, then I am all for it.

WTF is up widdat? What do they intend to achieve bye thie?

I guess getting a full scholarship and a chance at a 4-year education is no longer sufficient.

......someone has their head in the sand.

I dated a gentleman for a few years, who gave cash, cars, jobs (they never went to), etc, to players at his alma mater.   The big boosters at schools rule, and I have no doubt that NW is any different.

Hugs and Kisses,
Kelly

Dear Kelly:
I don't know if you got a chance to look at real sports, but Bernard Goldberg has a piece that will make you question seriously if they really do get an education. At the top schools,  the alumni and boosters do play an influential role in College Athletics. However the next question is, is it proportionate to what revenues the School gets. That answer would certainly be a resounding No. I am currently listening to Mike Francesca now and I can assure you that a new day is coming in College Athletics and there will be compensation that is legal for Football and Basketball players.  Also athletes that fall out of the category will be able to have a part time job.  Just like the professional athletes years ago the kids are starting to realize how much a part they are in the revenue making machine of College Athletics.

And will only men get compensation? What about UConn, Tennessee and Baylor, for example, where the women's b-ball teams generate a lot of revenue. What are they going to tell the Alabama women;s gymnastics team, who is a national contender year after year; "Sorry sweeties; you don't get any compensation because your sport isn't as popular as football or basketball?" I can see a lot of lawsuits being filed on this issue.

They are going to start with that group because they are the major revenue generating sports for the member institutions.

They may start with them, but it sure won't end with them. This is Pandora's Box in a major way.

They maybe don't want what they are fighting for.  If they become a union I would think it would become "INCOME" and then comes the IRS>

Right now the only kids getting any money are the "Stars", and those are the kids who are going to get rich in sports anyhow.

The biggest problem is the poor kid who doesn't have pro talent, but he still does "two a days' have to subordinate his education for the good of the team, and can't even get a stipend for grocery money. At the end of four years he gets a pat on the back, no money, and no prospects for a career of any kind. In the meantime time the University and the NCAA are making billions.

come on, too much money......players see an asst ad make 250k a year to do nothing....the ohio state athletic director just collected a 18k bonus bc a wrestler who he never met won a national title.   Everybody is getting rich in college football and hoops but the players....
