I wanted to be 100% safe, which as I read the posts on the fear of std's essentially means not hobbying.

But as I read the posts and some of the std info available on the FAQ for Newbies and Craig's list link to the SF STD Clinic, I became more comfortable-  and I guess as I got comfortable hobbying, I began to consider hobbying worth some risk- though I do have some comfort about playing safe.

In reading posts- many hobbyists with very high numbers of visits over many years claim no disease from oral- giving or receiving- that gave me comfort.

The SF Clinic info indicates very little risk from oral- herpes being somewhat possible, but less frequently transmitted from genital to oral than from genital to genital.

Finally, I see only providers who meet my comfort level for "playing safe" which for me means primarily that they screen and check references, and that they themselves are well known and respected in my local hobbying community.  To me, if they are screening and checking references, and they themselves are known, word would be out if they were unsafe.

I feel so much safer with a known provider than I ever would with a civvie!  And if the chemistry is there, I do love daty!

I would say the practice is 90% universal, not just in the hobbying game but in all types of sexual relationships.

If there was a big risk of HIV or other type of infection from this, I think is would be well documented and advertised a lot.

If it's not part of what the lady offers, I don't schedule.  If I do schedule and it turns out she doesn't offer it, I don't book again.  Without going into the "do they fake it" debate, nothing is more exciting to me than making a lady feel good.

There is always some risk with sexual activity, but as I've read the boards here for the past several months, it seems as though the risk of contracting anything from oral sex is relatively low.
For me , I love DATY, and  I look forward to that each session.

I am probably the only guy on this site who doesn't like giving or receiving oral. Yes, I know, I've been criticized for this by people before. My reason for not doing oral with anyone at all has something to do with safety, but more to do with the idea that I prefer not to taste myself on the lips of my partner. (I do keep myself clean, as do my partners, but I still can't get past the idea that I'm indirectly sucking my own...when I kiss her.)

That's my perspective on the whole oral business, but don't let it discourage you from doing what you really want to do.

With non providers I always operated under the rule 3 to 1. Which meant my girlfriend gets 3 orgasms to my 1. Whether that be during sex, DATY, toys, whatever.

I know that is pretty hard to do with a provider because of many various reasons, but I do try to give her at least one orgasm if able. Besides, I find that women taste delicious.

On a related topic, how about DFK? Are there significant risks of catching something from DFK, which I'm worried about.
