How Witchita State performs in the NCAA tournament is not an indictment to their seeding

If Wichita State gets a # 1 or # 2 seed in their region and then looses in the second round, that doesn't mean the NCAA made a mistake giving them that  high seed. History is full of countless examples of #1 seeds loosing in the second round or even #2 seeds loosing in the first round. It happens all the time. It's the nature of the beast and why millions of people love March Madness. Teams loose earlier than expected. It may be embarrassing for a team with a high seed to loose early in the tournament, but that's not an indictment on the NCAA committee.

Moreover, Wichita State is good. Really good. Frankly, they outplayed and could have beaten Louisville last year in the semis. And while last year's run to the final four has nothing to do with this year's seeding, it has EVERYTHING to do with Wichita State as a viable program. Their coach has been to a final four. They have players on their team who have been to the final four. This is not some team out of the woods who has never had any recent NCAA tournament success. You can't dismiss experience in the tournament. It counts. It would certainly not be a shocker (pun intended) if Wichita State made another deep run...

Most of us may remember when Gonzaga received a 1seed and how they "showed". The selection comm seems poised to allow Wichita St to have a 1seed. Does that automatically create a weak region?

Look, I love underdog play but it has to be embarrassing to be a high seed and be proven that your "dance" card had been a sham from the get-go.

Also, I'm curious to see which conference will be the greater tournament representative. Big Ten? ACC? Big 12? Will any conference receive more than 6 invites?

Inquiring drinkers want to know.........NOW lol

the Big Ten and ACC will have 6 invites..Big 12 will have five..Wichita State will never make the Elite Eight..

I don't think they'll even win 2 games.

The Big 10 had 5. The ACC had 5 and the Big 12 had 8. You can always check Mr Lunardis "Bracketology" at espn.com

Wichita State was  Final Four team last year, is 30-0, ranked #2 in the country with a #9 RPI.  By what standard are they NOT a #1 seed?

Bye way of strength os schedule. I think the #2 ranking is a gift only to save face with those in/around Wichita

What does last year have to do with now? A great example of that is the NFL Falcons and Texans. "Last Year" don't mean doo doo

Beating 30 scrub teams doesn't mean you're good, it just means you can beat bad teams. Who is the best team W State has played? Tennessee or maybe St. Louis. Both are middling teams by ACC standards.

And btw OSP i don't want to hear any more "Fear the Terrapins" now that they have cut and run to the Big Ten. Time for you to become a Duke fan.

We're also Pitt panthers fans but I always have a great respect for a school which places the kids academics in high priority.

FEAR THE PANTHER lol

The all-knowing Mr Lunardi gives the last #1 seed to Kansas(ranked 8 this week)

Lunardi changes his projections every week. Last week he had Syracuse as a #1 seed. Now he has them at #2 in the same region as Kansas. And he'll probably change again next week.

Dear OSP:
Keep in mind several teams have a Higher RPI and the strength of schedule will be suspect considering that they are in a mid level D-I conference. They will get it because they where undefeated but it is something to be taken with a grain of salt because the level of competition is not quite as high as it should be.

Syracuse is about to lose their 3rd in 4 games. So unless they win the ACC tournament, their hope of a #1 seed may be about to bid them adieu.
