WOW!! Thanks for sending me this link---I think this Russian coach is going to--shall we say--VANISH!!

You KNOW Putin has got to be FURIOUS over this performance--somebody's head is going on the  chopping block!! I don't think this coach has much of a future LOL!!

Give it to the American Hockey team, we are competing and winning in a sport dominated by other countries!!!!!

Quarterfinal Score:  Finland 3, Russia 1.  No medal, again.  Russian journalist Vladimir Pozner and many others observed that the men's hockey medal was THE medal that meant the most to the host nation and Mr. Putin.

USA, USA ... let's get the job done against Czech Republic today.

(Though it really was a shame the Russian women curling team got beat by Great Britain yesterday and were eliminated.  Anna Sidorova and Alexandra Saitova were HOT!

People are forgetting that Finland was ranked 2nd in the world coming into the Olympics by the IIHF. They have a superb goaltender (Rask) who is on fire right now--plus they have a very difficult style to play against. That semifinal against Sweden is going to be a war!!

And, of course, on the other side of the bracket USA and Canada. The US has played exceptionally well throughout the tournament while Canada has really struggled. Now the optimist in me says that momentum is going to carry the day in this matchup with the US prevailing but if Canada ever gets their shit together than forget it--we're not beating them! The fact that the Canadians have been so sluggish makes me nervous because they haven't come close to playing their best hockey yet--and they're going to be jacked up to play us!! When you have somebody like John Tavares playing on your 4TH LINE you know that's a team with talent to burn!!

It's no out on a limb statement to say that Canada could beat the US in the Semi Finals. It's an evenly matched contest and no way to predict. Flip a coin. So if disaster strikes there, then, in a bronze medal game against either Sweden or Finland, again it's not a stretch to say the US could loose that game as well.

Yes, the US is playing extremely well and have a gold medal within their grasp. It would be a complete let down if they didn't even make the podium.

No matter what the outcome--if you're a hockey fan you've gotta be pumped for these upcoming games!! Four outstanding teams squaring off--all of them legitimate goal-medal contenders!!

The Russians aren't in the medal round likely due to their overconfidence .
IMO ,  Nothing is more exciting about a Hockey game than USA versus Russia .

In  love and sports , overconfidence can  often lead to a humiliating defeat .
If you don't believe me,  ask  Tom Cruise or Peyton Manning what I'm talking about .

I don't necessarily think it was overconfidence--IMHO these were the factors that did Russia in.

 1) They were uptight and jittery the ENTIRE tournament--in fact, the only game that they played well was against the USA. The pressure of being the host team and having heavy expectations to win weighed them down.`

 2) The loss to the US and the controversy over the disallowed goal rattled them even more--I don't think they ever got over this loss!!

 3) The roster was NOT cohesive---it was a mix of NHL AND KHL players---many people think (and I agree) that the Russians were trying to use the Olympics to "showcase" the abilities of KHL players as being on par with the NHL--this was pure politics and it cost them dearly!!

 4) Ovechkin is NOT a clutch performer PERIOD!! The Ovechkin/Malkin pairing didn't work at all!!

 5) The Russian players don't dig and scrap like the Americans-Canadians-Finns, etc, They won't sacrifice their bodies like these other teams--you got a sense of "prima-donna" within the Russian squad no real unity ever developed on this team.

 6) Not starting Bobrovsky in goal today was IDIOTIC--if Putin wants to send someone to Siberia he should send the Russian coach!!

Good points EC
There's a  chance your # 6 could be prophetic for Zinetula Bilyaletdinov .
